Question of the Week!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This section is dedicated to you, our readers! Feel free to reply to this email with any of your fun stories from your vacation in Pigeon Forge. Send us photos, memories, travel tips, anything that you would like to tell us about your experience in the Smokies. Every week we will highlight reader's comments in this article. Thanks for all the feedback. We love to hear from you!
This week's question, "Have you been ziplining yet?  Tell us about it!"
Last week's question, "What has been your most memorable experience when vacationing to Pigeon Forge?"
Carolyn from WV writes, "My most memorable experience when vacationing in Pigeon Forge is the time in  November, 2006, when my husband started having chest pains late one night at our timeshare unit.  I took him to the Sevier County Medical Center where they immediately diagnosed him as 'having a heart attack right now'.  He was transported by ambulance to Knoxville where he was treated for one week and sent home to WV. To make a long story short, my husband is very much alive and well and under the care of an excellent cardiologist in our home area.  We make at least four trips to the Great Smoky Mountains each year.  We still like the area and are thankful that my Hubby's health still allows him to travel and enjoy God's beautiful mountains."
Dennis writes, "It is strange how sometimes simple and peaceful times make the best memories. Almost 40 years ago my wife Joan, our two daughters 2 and 3 years old and our son who was 11 stayed at the Smoky Shadows Motel. It was about the only place in the area to stay. The great thing was it backed up to the river. The highlight of our week was the kids looking forward to returning to the hotel to get in the icy cold water. We have pictures of them laughing, splashing and enjoying themselves. My wife and I sat on the bank talking about how blessed we were with our children and the beautiful surroundings of Pigeon Forge. Great memories!"
Janet says, "One of my most memorable moments in PF was when we stayed at The Inn at Christmas place. The doorman was busy with another guest & actually apologized for not opening the door for us. We had never been anywhere with service like that. Also  the pool maintenance guy folded a dollar bill into a shirt and gave it to me. Our only complaint had been the water pressure in the shower being so weak. When they found out about us not liking the pressure, they fixed it. At breakfast there was always a good variety and omelets made to order with your choice of ingredients. One could not ask for better service than we received during our stay."
Jacob writes, "At New Year's in 2009-2010, we were staying at my cousin's condo. The day after we got there, me and my grandma went to Kroger. Before we could get inside, she started to get sick.  She couldn't drive back and she couldn't go in. My grandpa couldn't drive from the condo to Kroger because he had one leg amputated and he was really sick at the time. My Mom couldn't drive from Ohio to help so we were stuck for I don't know how long. After a while, she said she felt better. So, we went home. Of course on the drive back, we had to have a tail light out (We didn't get pulled over...a man in a blue pick-up truck told us). The next day, we went to Kroger and it was good up until January 2nd. Then, at around 9:00 pm, we had to call an ambulance because my grandpa got really sick. We went to the hospital. Spent the night in the waiting room. He had surgery. Then when it was time for him to go home, that is when it started snowing. Out of all the times for it to snow, that was the worst! Why couldn't it have started snowing on New Years?! So then, we got snowed in for 2 days. We finally made it home!"
Motown Comes to Town
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Looks like the former "Eastern Shanghai Theater" on the Parkway, is being spruced up for a new attraction that will open next month. Nate Evans, a former member of The Impressions who later toured with Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin of The Temptations, is starting a Motown-style show for the theater that is scheduled to launch on June 21. Evans, who currently lives in Kodak, led a similar show in Pigeon Forge in recent years, but the new attraction will be different.  Instead of a five-piece band they're planning to have an eight-to-ten-piece band, with horns. While it costs more, he said, the sound makes a difference. "We wanted to come big," he added.
