| Smoky Mountains Gain 20 Acres
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Great Smoky Mountains are growing 20 acres! The Foothills Land Conservancy and the Friends of the Smokies purchased two 10-acre tracts at a public auction totaling $775,000. The acreage is surrounded on three sides by park land, so it is definitely prime property. There are no plans for the land at the time. One of the 10-acre tracts has existing structures on it which require environmental assessments before the Park can accept it. The other tract has 30 days to closing and will then be signed over to the park immediately.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Passion Play in the Smokies is a powerful dramatization of music, pagentry and Hebrew dance to proclaim the life of Jesus Christ. The 2010 schedule is limited to 4 days in September and 5 in October, so don't miss out on this spectacular show! Make sure to check out the schedule, ticket prices and location.

| GSMNP Named a Top Hiking Destination by Huffington Post
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Huffington Post asked National Geographic their favorite places to go for a hike and not surprisingly the Smoky Mountains were at the top of the list! We were ecstatic to find our very own Smoky Mountains as number one on National Geographic's list among other places such as Cinque Terre, Italy, Crete and Switzerland. They point out the history of the Smokies as the homeland of the Cherokee Indians. Also, how the mountains were named by the Cherokee for the "mysterious wisps of blue-gray smoke that often shroud the highest peaks". We're very happy (and lucky) to call the Smokies home!
