Question of the Week, "Spring is in the air! What is your favorite Spring/Springfest story from Pigeon Forge?"
Last week's question, "Easter is this Sunday, what's your favorite Easter memory from the Smokies?"
Tom writes, "It was our kids Spring Break and we thought we would plan a getaway to the mountains. We spent 3 nights at the Glenstone Lodge in Gatlinburg and the last morning we went down to the hotel restaurant and were eating breakfast and looked out the window and it was snowing, the big flakes. Being from Georgia, at that time my kids had never seen snow like that, especially at Easter. Me and my wife were very surprised, as well. Now, every time we go back to Gatlinburg, especially in the spring and if we drive up Airport Rd, we always say remember when......We had a story to tell the family when we saw everyone the next day, Easter Sunday." |
| Cades Cove Early Opening!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There has been significant progress on the re-paving of Cades Cove Loop, so much that park officials plan to open the loop almost a month early! Cades Cove Loop is expected to open on April 24 and to recognize the completion of this long-overdue project and National Park Week, the Park is planning two celebratory events. A Field Day has been set for Saturday, April 24, when only bicycles and pedestrians will be permitted on the road until noon. On Sunday morning, April 25, the Park and the Friends of the Smokies are planning a one-time-only "Cades Cove Loop Lope," which will offer pre-registered runners a choice of the full 11 mile loop or a 3.5 mile loop course.
