Question of the Week!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This section is dedicated to you, our readers! Feel free to email us any of your fun stories from your vacation in Pigeon Forge. Send us photos, memories, travel tips, anything that you would like to tell us about your experience in the Smokies. Every week we will highlight reader's comments in this article. Thanks for all the feedback. We love to hear from you!
Question of the Week, "Spring is in the air in Pigeon Forge!  What is your favorite spring activity in Pigeon Forge?"
Last week's question, "What's the funniest thing that's happened to you in Pigeon Forge?"
Patsy writes, "My daughter got married in Gatlinburg in December of 2007. We were snowboarding on a snow covered road in the national park when my daughter (the bride) was heading for a tree. Her husband just started hollering tree-tree-tree and at the time it was so funny because she couldn't stop and no one could get to her. She also lost her shoe in this ordeal.  We love the Smokies so much we bought a place there and go every 5 weeks when our job allows and in the summer all our grand kids (9) come to enjoy the summer. We always have a gang when we go. We hope to retire there someday!"
Renee says, "It would have to be when our luggage flew off the top of our van. That's an experience I'd rather not go through again. But it sure was funny after the initial shock of it flying everywhere."
Donna wrote, "My daughter and I were on vacation, along with friends.  We had been out riding in the mountains and upon returning to the motel, I fell.  I was getting out of the back seat and my foot got caught on the seatbelt.  It was a two door car and the front seatbelt attached to the back of the door frame.  My shoe caught the seatbelt and down I went.  My elbow caught the door and my arm went over my head and came back down.  There were SEVERAL people sitting on the balconies  who witnessed my gracefulness.  I had to sit in the car to keep from passing out.  I was unable to raise my arm, but refused to go to the hospital there.  I drove home the next day, (one handed) and went to the hospital in our hometown the following day.  The x-ray confirmed what I thought, I broke my arm.  So, I fell out of a car and broke my arm while vacationing in Pigeon Forge.  I wanted to tell everyone I was climbing the Chimney tops, rafting the Little Pigeon or wrestling a bear, but no, I just fell out of a parked car."
Road Closing Updates ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There have been a lot of rockslides and construction going on this year in our area causing some major roads to close.  This can get very confusing when trying to plan a vacation, so here is an update on the current road closings.
  • The section of I-40 in between Asheville and Pigeon Forge is still closed due to a rockslide and will be closed for at least another month.
  • The section of the "spur" going from Pigeon Forge to Gatlinburg has just reopened one lane.  The full road is scheduled to re-open on Tuesday.
  • A section of Ridge Road between Park Road and Candy Tuft Drive is closed due to an underground mudslide in early February that left a large crack in the road.  The damage is more serious than expected and there is not an estimated re-open date.  The city is still trying to decide the best way to repair it.
  • Cades Cove will be closing March 1 through May 21 for construction on the 11 mile loop.  This road work is in effort to pave the eroded pull offs which will overall improve traffic flow, so visitors will be able to pull over to view the wildlife.
