| Question of The Week!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This section is dedicated to you, our readers! Feel free to email us any of your fun stories from your vacation in Pigeon Forge. Send us photos, memories, travel tips, anything that you would like to tell us about your experience in the Smokies. Every week we will highlight reader's comments in this article. Thanks for all the feedback. We love to hear from you. Question of the Week, "Christmas is right around the corner, what's your favorite Christmas memory from the Smokies?"
Last week's question, "Have you been to Winterfest before? If so, what was your favorite part?"
Steve writes, "Jane and I have been to Pigeon Forge during Winterfest, and enjoy all the activities. If I could recommend one thing to do at this time, it would be to take the Trolley ride at night. Not only do you get to view all the lights without having to drive, you get information about all the lights and Pigeon Forge also. It makes a great evening!"
Teresa says, "I came to Winterfest in 2002 for Christmas. It was a Winter Wonderland. Streets weren't very busy, and the lights at night were awesome. The best part was that it snowed on Christmas morning. There were a few restaurants open surprisingly for breakfast and dinner. I felt bad for the employees, but I did appreciate them working that day. I love Christmas at home, however 2002 was a rough year with the loss of two grandfathers and we were in need of a break. If you and the family want to do something out of the ordinary this season make plans to enjoy Winterfest."
Kenneth writes, "Yes, we have been to Winterfest many times before. It quickly gets you in the spirit of Christmas. We bring our three year old granddaughter and the spirit of Christmas through the eyes of a child are memories a grandparent will never forget. She loves the shows and in awe of the lights. We started bringing her when she was 11 months old and she remembers things from year to year. We started with our boys when they were small and hope to continue this to be a tradition we keep carring on from generation to generation. One of the simplest things my granddaughter enjoyed was feeding the ducks and pigeons, they came on the balcony of our motel. Any time is a great time to visit the Smokey Mountain area. We save vacation time just to be able to spend a week enjoying the lights, Christmas shows, and who could forget the shopping?" |
| The Festival of Christmas Past
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The 34th annual Festival of Christmas Past celebration is a popular celebration of Christmas and winter in the Smokies. The event, sponsored in cooperation with Great Smoky Mountains Association, is free to the public. The popular event is a celebration of Christmas and winter in the Smokies. Around Christmas time, people gathered in churches, homes, and schools, and many of them celebrated the holiday through music, storytelling, and crafts. The Festival of Christmas Past lets us pause and remember some of these traditions. The festival will include old-time mountain music and Old Harp singing, as well as demonstrations of traditional domestic skills such as basket making, quilting, spinning, and apple butter making. The festival will take place at the Sugarlands Visitor Center on Saturday December 12, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Hollywood Star Cars Museum Gains Michael Jackson's Car
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Michael Jackson's car has a new home nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains and will be displayed among legendary automobile icons like the Batmobile, Herbie and the Flintmobile. The 1985 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL will be displayed in the lobby along with one of Jackson's Suits of Light, one of his many costumes he wore performing on stage.
Hollywood Star Cars Museum owner Charlie Moore bought the car for $100,000 online at Julien's Auction. Moore is sure the car was worth its hefty price tag. "I'm an old fan of him anyway," Moore said of the pop star, he also thinks, Michael Jackson "is gonna be an Elvis of this generation." Moore's collection of more than 40 vehicles even includes a 1975 Lincoln Town car that belonged to Elvis himself.
The Hollywood Star Cars Museum is open 7 days a week 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Admission is $11.99 for adults and $6.99 for children age 6-12. Children under 6 are free.
