~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This section is dedicated to you, our readers! Feel free to email us any of your fun stories from your vacation in Pigeon Forge. Send us photos, memories, travel tips, anything that you would like to tell us about your experience in the Smokies. Every week we will highlight reader's comments in this article. Thanks for all the feedback. We love to hear from you.
Question of the Week, "The holiday season is upon us! Do you have a special Holiday memory or tradition in Pigeon Forge?"
Last week's question, "Has anyone been married in Pigeon Forge or the Smokies? Tell us your story!"
Kathleen wrote, "Joe and I decided to get married in January and the Smokies was our destination. We stayed in a cabin in Pigeon Forge, ordered a cake and flowers from Krogers and were married in a small wedding chapel in Gatlinburg. Our kids all knew we were going to get married but it was just the preacher, Joe and me on that sunny cold snowy morning. Now every time we visit Gatlinburg we drive by "our" chapel and remember that wonderful day 8 years ago."
Eloise and George tell their story, "We were married in Gatlinburg on Christmas eve 1995 at Memories Wedding Chapel. We saw the ad in our local newspaper, called and received great assistance. Gathered our stuff, drove up from Mississippi (the weather was beautifully cold and crisp. The entire area was decorated for the Holidays). That was our first trip to the Smokies, but not our last. Our daughter was married at Memories in September of 2007. We've made Gatlinburg our frequent vacation destination since then."
Maureen wrote, "I was married in Pigeon Forge at Mountain Valley Chapel and I could not have asked for a more beautiful setting! It was October and the fall colors were at their peak, the air was crisp and clean and the view was spectacular on top of that mountain! What a beautiful place to get married...so romantic and cozy. Pigeon Forge remains one of my all time favorite places to visit and each time I do return I have to make a trip up the mountain the Mountain Valley Chapel so I can absorb the beauty that lies there! Not only did I have the most beautiful wedding that anyone could ask for but I also met some of the friendliest people ever in Pigeon Forge! Wish I lived there!" |
| Fall Foliage Update
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fall is here folks and the weather looks to be like it will be holding steady over the next couple of weeks. So the leaves should be hanging around for a little bit, but not for too long! So make sure you are planning that trip to the Smokies as soon as possible if you don't want to miss out on this season's leaves! The weather is looking to be full of sun this week/weekend, so if you are here take full advantage and take a hike in the mountains, or drive out to Cades Cove and check out the wildlife! What ever you decide to do we hope you're enjoying this beautiful time of year in the Smokies! |

| Smoky Mountain Magic, a Novel Lost for 80 Years
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Great Smoky Mountains Association has just published and released its newest book, Smoky Mountain Magic, a novel by Horace Kephart. Although completed in 1929, just 2 years before his death, the novel was never published until now. The unpublished manuscript for Smoky Mountain Magic was handed down within the Kephart family until it was finally brought to the attention of park superintendent by the author's great-granddaughter, at one of this year's 75th Anniversary celebrations.
The 248 page Smoky Mountain Magic is now available in both paperback ($12.95) and hard cover ($19.95). All proceeds are being donated to the Horace Kephart Foundation (in support of the annual Horace Kephart Days Celebration in Bryson City), Great Smoky Mountains Association and Friends of the Smokies. The novel is available at park visitor centers, area bookstores, and by contacting GSMA.
