Send us photos, memories, travel tips, anything that you would like to tell us about your experience in the Smokies. Every week we will highlight reader's comments in this article. Thanks for all the feedback. We love to hear from you.

Question of the Week, "How far do you drive to see the beautiful Smoky Mountains fall foliage?"

Last week's question, "There are tons of festivals that take place all year long in Pigeon Forge, what is your favorite?"

Joyce wrote, "We always try and make two trips to Pigeon Forge a year. One for the Dolly wood parade and for the Winterfest. While there Cade's Cove is a must. All the beautiful scenery is just a plus for the trip. Of course one can not forget the good shopping and favorite restaurants."
Best Fall and Autumn Hikes in the Smokies!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The fall hiking season is rapidly approaching and soon leaf viewers will be out in full force in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The timing of fall color season depends upon many variables, making it virtually impossible to predict the exact dates of "peak" colors in advance but we can get it pretty close.
This time of year is typically the best time to hike at the higher elevations in the park. Fall color displays that you will see include yellow birch, American beech, mountain maple, hobblebush, and pin cherry. If you're looking for good fall color hikes in September, we suggest Mt. Leconte or Clingmans Dome.
Autumn colors usually reach their peak at mid and lower elevations between mid-October and early November. This is usually the best time to be in the park as you will see the spectacular displays of color from sugar maples, scarlet oak, sweetgum, red maple, and hickories. You can continue to hike at elevation to take in the fall colors from above, or you can walk among the autumn colored trees.
As the fall color season begins to wind down in early November, you'll want to hike at the lowest elevations in the park. We suggest Abrams Falls, Indian Falls or Deep Creek Loop.
Pigeon Forge Winterfest
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Although we are in the beginning stages of fall, a lot of us are already thinking and planning for Winterfest in Pigeon Forge.

Spectacular light displays illuminate the evening landscape of Pigeon Forge in the four month-long holiday celebration of Winterfest. From November 3rd, 2009 through February 28th, 2010 over five million lights will shimmer at dusk throughout the Smoky Mountain town, inspiring a grand jubilee of light arrangements, festive decorations, special events, seasonal delicacies and mountain music.

Each year Winterfest opens a world of fun, free things to do in Pigeon Forge. The entire county gets involved, putting on the most impressive holiday festival in the state of Tennessee. There are attractions tailored for all ages and all different personalities. Anyone can find something fun to do or see!
