Artefx Mural 30x40Greetings!

It's summertime! So please remember to protect yourself and your pets when you're out in the sun and drink plenty of water. Traditionally June is our hottest, driest month of the year, so take a little time to take care.

If taking a break from the heat and your own garden sounds inviting, even for a little while, come visit ours! And while you're here, stop by our unique Gift Shop to browse the wonderful book selection (two staff favorites are noted below).

Or get comfortable and have a seat under our pavilion. Meet with friends or relax and listen to the sounds of gentle music and nature, enjoy the levity of hummingbirds and butterflies, and take a breath. It's shady; it's inviting; and best of all, Renee Wold, proprietor of Elixer Coffee Solutions is eagerly waiting to serve you a refreshing cup of java, iced or hot, along with a wonderful array of baked goods.

This is also where you will find the stunning mural from Artefx Canvas Art pictured above. This is one of five 30x40-inch photographs that have been skillfully transferred to canvas specifically for outdoor use. We think you'll agree that the vibrant colors and breathtaking scenes have been handled with great precision.

Lastly, we're always thankful to have the opportunity to feature an outstanding selection of original garden art by local artists, much of which is also located under our pavilion. We think these are just a few things that set us apart, so please come in and see for yourself!

The Hot Garden
by Scott Calhoun

Local author, teacher, and garden designer Scott Calhoun has another winner with his most recent book The Hot Garden: Landscape Design for the Desert Southwest. Many of you are familiar with Yard Full of Sun which was a 2006 American Horticultural Society Book of the Year, and Chasing Wildflowers received the 2008 Garden Writers Association Media Award. The Hot Garden

The Hot Garden
has plenty of vivid photographs, many of them local, and Scott provides concise directions and guides with relevant information in an inviting style all his own. If you get a chance to attend any of his talks, I highly recommend you do so. There is no denying that Scott loves and appreciates the beauty of the desert Southwest garden, and it shows.
Cool Plants for Hot Gardens
by Greg Starr

heart paperweightYes, sometimes it may prove to be challenging to garden in the desert Southwest, but fortunately Greg Starr, an award-winning horticulturist, makes it easier for us. Bill Harlow highly recommends this book and holds Mr. Starr in high regard for his many years of experience and expertise. Here he offers extensive information in an easy-to-follow style with pertinent plant descriptions, guides, notes, and pictures.

Garden Quote
by John Muir

"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves."
As we continue to celebrate our 70th birthday this year, thank you to all our valued customers for your continued support. It's always a pleasure, and we look forward to future relationships and events. Your garden experience is important to us, and we strive to consistently provide the best service and quality plants and products.

Sincerely,
