Visit our unique Gift Shop where you'll find special treasures for our "best friends." This heavy and adorable bookend is one of two holding up one of our best-selling books, Hooray for Dogs, compiled by Alexandra Day. We also recently brought in travel bags from Bison for those everloving dog treats, colorful and beautifully designed leashes and collars, and the best: remarkable lightweight travel bowls for water and food that are totally collapsible and easily stored in any backpack, pocket, etc .

Tis the season for cool-weather annuals, and petunias are arriving daily! What a wonderful way to add a myriad of colors to your garden. Picobella petunias provide small mounds of color 8-10" tall and wide and are a new variety we are eager to share with you. Grandifloras are great for containers, borders, and window boxes with the Limbo variety being very popular. Supertunia petunias of the Proven Winners series are mounded but somewhat larger and better in landscapes. All petunias do well in sun to partial shade with normal watering needs. Deadheading them is a must to extend their growing period and to keep them vibrant and lush, but what a small price to pay for all the enjoyment and beauty!

Pachira (money plants), pothos, peperomia, bromeliads, take your pick--They all look especially nice displayed in these unique, rustic looking, yet colorful pots from Oakland Garden Pottery. Sprinkle some glass gem stones or gravel over the soil for added texture and color.

Berylline hbirdHeavenly Hummingbirds
We carry an exceptional book, one of many in our Gift Shop, by Lynn Hassler Kaufman entitled Hummingbirds of the American West. Page after page is filled with colorful pictures and traits specific to the 18 different species that nest or migrate in North America, plus 3 others that occasionally cross the Mexican border into the States. In addition, Ms. Kaufman caters to the gardener with tips for attracting these magnificent creatures by illustrating native plants and their characteristics. The color red most certainly attracts hummingbirds, but as the author touches upon the care and use of hummingbird feeders, she notes that red dye is a foreign substance and not necessary. The colorful jewel pictured here is the Berylline hummingbird. It prefers shady canyons in Arizona and tends to nest in sycamore trees.
