Our Genes "Fit" !
The Hereford Genes Event held in conjuction with Farmfair in Edmonton was once again a huge success. With 28 head of bulls exhibited during the event there was no doubt of the quality of Hereford genetics available to the commercial cattleman.
Congratulations to Lost Lake Ranch for having their bull chosen in the Bull of the Prairies draw, to Fenton Herford Ranch for having the Champion Ranchers Choice Bull and to Brost Land & Cattle for having the Reserve Ranchers Choice entry.

| Balog Auction British Breeds Calf Sales Show Off Top Quality Hereford Genetics !
The 16th Annual Balog British Breeds calf sales showed renewed optimism in the cattle industry. On offer were many quality steers and heifers from across Alberta, B.C. and Saskatchewan. The Alberta Hereford Association was happy to support this years sale by once again serving lunch to those who attended the first calf sale.
These fall calf sales kicked off the Fall run of Production sales in Alberta, which were equally as optomistic and exciting. You can view these sale results in the Canadian Hereford Digest.
As we begin the spring sale season we wish everyone the best of luck at their upcoming sales ! |

Meet Your AHA Directors
~ Leonard Poholka ~
Leonard got hooked on Herefords as a child and became a CHA member and proud owner of 2 purebred heifers in early 1982 at the age of 11.
"I studied all the Digests we had ( starting with Aug. 1975) and loved going to Hereford events", say's Leonard.
In Dec. 1986 he attended his first AHA Annual Meeting in Lethbridge and has attended all AGM's since except for the 3 years he attended Lakeland College. He has been on the Northern Alberta Hereford Club board since 1995, and was first elected to the AHA board in 2009. Since then he has looked after the AHA's print advertising and in January 2012 became the vice president of the Association.
Currently Leonard raises Herefords with his parents on the farm he has always lived on near Breton, AB. They have consigned to the CAHC Supremacy Sale since it started in '92, exhibited at Farmfair every year since '93, taken cattle to Hardisty Field Day since the first one in '95 and the Bull Congress in Camrose since '98. They market their bulls at the Calgary Bull Sale and at home.
More about Leonard's history and their program can be found on their website |

The Canadian Bull Congress
10 Hereford Breeders exhibited cattle at the Canadian Bull Congress in Camrose on Jan. 20 & 21. This was possibly the largest turnout of Herefords in the 26 year history of the event !
For the first time in many years there was no Hereford team in the Steak Challenge and it is hoped that some people other than exhibitors will get geared up & plan a team for next years event. The competition
has garnered many awards for the various teams over the years.
Thank you to all those exhibitors who supported this event, and promoted Hereford Genetic's in Alberta.
