BIG!NYC Looks Back on 2011

2011 was a BIG year for Build It Green!NYC. We opened our second reuse center in mid-November and doubled our staff! With your help and support we diverted over 900 tons of building materials from the waste stream, double the amount from 2010! That's nearly 2 million pounds of construction and demolition waste that was sourced, donated, and resold for a second life. As you know, diverting materials from the landfill saves trees, reduces natural resources consumed, and saves energy from production and shipping of new goods around the world.

Last year we developed our own composting program for Western Queens and donated $250,000 worth of materials to environmental initiatives in NYC including local community gardens, educational programs, and much more! View the full report at www.bignyc.org/annual-report.

Coming Soon!  Event Space in Gowanus

BIG!NYC is planning to expand our Gowanus reuse center to include an event space, shared office space, and classrooms for reuse workshops! Interested in hosting your next event along the Gowanus Canal? Seeking a local office space to share with environmental organizations? Email us to learn more at  [email protected].
