I am excited to announce that my nomination today of Ms. Sami Haiman-Marrero to the Board of Directors for Visit Orlando was approved by the Board of County Commissioners in a 7-0 vote earlier this morning.
Ms. Haiman-Marrero has over 17 years of experience in national advertising, marketing, business development and multicultural affairs. She began her career at a Hispanic PR agency in New York City where she played a lead role in Hispanic outreach for the 1996 Presidential election and later went on to work with a multicultural agency managing Latino festivals across the United States, media tours for book authors and health conferences for pharmaceutical companies.
Ms. Haiman-Marrero served as Publisher of Mira, owned by the National Enquirer and the first ever newspaper tabloid published in Spanish. Upon moving to Orlando in 2004, Ms. Haiman-Marrero worked for the New York Post managing national Advertising Sales for their English-language Latino section called Tempo. She is currently the Founder/President of Urbander, a business development and marketing agency with local, national and international accounts.
Ms. Haiman-Marrero holds a Masters in Communications from the University of Puerto Rico and is a member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the National Society of Hispanic MBAs, a Board member of the Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida and an Associate Member of the American Translators Association.
