I'm excited to announce that the Orange County Board of County Commissioners approved the installation of two traffic signals in District 4 today.
The first signal will be installed at the intersection of Alafaya Trail and Ashton Manor Way. A traffic signal warrant analysis was conducted and showed that conditions were appropriate for a signal to be installed. The cost of design, permitting, and construction of the traffic signal will be funded by the developers. Once constructed, Orange County will maintain the signal. The traffic signal will remain on yellow caution flash until warrants are met under existing traffic conditions.
The exciting part about this signal is that not only will it provide safer access to the Toys R Us and new Bahama Breeze on Alafaya Trail but it also paves the way for a new national retailer looking to open in this area before the holidays. If this retailer moves forward, this means an approximate $20 Million in construction spending and 200+ jobs to our community. Sometimes, a traffic signal is more than just a traffic signal.
The second signal approved today will be installed at the intersection of S. Avalon Park Boulevard and Golden Isle Boulevard/Spring Isle Boulevard. A traffic signal warrant study was conducted and showed that conditions were appropriate for a signal to be installed. The cost of design, permitting, and construction of the traffic signal will be funded by Spring Isle C, LLC. Once constructed, Orange County will maintain the signal.
