Conway Historical Marker Dedication  - March 31

Join Conway residents and your District 4 Office to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 1972 B-52 plane crash at McCoy Air Force Base on Saturday, March 31st at the intersection of Merryweather Drive and Conway Road, Orlando, FL. The Ceremony will begin at 11:20am.

On March 31, 1972 a 306th Bombardment Wing B-52D Stratofortress bomber crashed onto a residential neighborhood along Merryweather Drive. The plane sustained multiple engine failures and a fire broke out shortly after takeoff. The impact of the crash left a 150 foot crater in the ground and 40,000 gallons of fuel ignited, burning much of a two block area. The crash injured eight civilians on the ground and killed the seven airmen on board. One civilian died three days later in the hospital from his injuries. This accident remains the worst plane crash in Central Florida history.

Please join us as we place a historical marker at the crash site to honor the lives lost in the crash and to recognize its impact on our community.
