Dear Neighbors,

I realize the none of us like sitting in traffic and that the construction on Alafaya Trail could not be finished fast enough.  My office has received several inquiries in the past week related to the road construction and I thought it best to send an email to everybody with updates.  I'm also meeting this week with the traffic engineers for the roadway to discuss the construction project.

The curve at the intersection of Broadhaven and Alafaya Trail was lengthened and widened, thus improving the transition flow.  Furthermore, warning barrels must remain since their purpose is to prevent a head-on collission with cars in the left turn lane.

There were complaints of a jagged asphalt area causing flat tires near the fire station at Stoneybrook's main entrance so the contractor widened this area and no further problems have been cited.

The speed limit has been lowered and the fines are now doubled.  In addition, the Sheriff's Office has increased patrols in an attempt to reduce speeds.

The traffic lane switches are now complete and subsequent switches will not occur for another 12 to 18 months.

There have been delays due to traffic signals being placed on standard timing rather than a detection system however, Traffic Engineering has corrected this matter and vehicular flow should improve.

As a resident of this area and daily driver on this road, I completely understand and appreciate your frustration and input. Thank you for your continued communication with my office and your patience during the construction on this road.  It is my pleasure to serve our community.

Please drive with caution and stay safe!  I'll send any further updates your way.

Regards,

Jennifer Thompson
