I've received several inquiries via Facebook lately regarding the clearing of trees along the portion of Alafaya Trail under construction and thought it might be more appropriate to send an email to everybody to let you know what's going on.
Clearing of Trees There are actually six retention ponds that need to be built as part of the construction. Essentially, that's what you are seeing. I am told that it is typical to clear the area for the retention ponds first. During construction, the area cleared for the ponds will most likely be used for equipment storage.
Controlled Burns Please be advised that starting today, debris related to the clearing for the retention ponds will be burned. All applicable permits have been pulled and the Fire Department is fully aware. Please don't be concerned if you see or smell smoke in the next few days alongside the road.
Meetings There is a meeting of the charter review commission today at 4:30pm. If you happen to be downtown, I'd love for you to stop by and see what it's all about. I've been told that today they will begin hearing discussions related to consolidation, limited government and the addition of a 7th district for Hispanic citizens. The charter review commission is responsible for suggesting changes to the county charter and for bringing items to referendum for voter input.
Have a great day! Thank you for allowing me to serve.
