Update from Commissioner Thompson

Dear Residents,

On behalf of your District 4 office, I want to thank all of you for allowing me time to speak and hear your concerns. Within that hour, much was discussed and several issues were brought forward. My office has been working diligently to resolve these issues. Here is a follow-up to those concerns:

Speeding/Traffic calming devices: Specifically on Whisper Lakes, there are over 9,000 vehicles per day on this road which would not qualify it for a traffic calming device. Traffic count has to be less than 3,000 per day. However, on May 4^th we are placing a speed trailer on the road trying to deter speeders as much as possible. We have also reached out to our local sector captain, (Al Rollins) with the sheriff's office, to provide more visibility. If you would like to include Captain Rollins in a future meeting, let me know and I can put him in touch with you.

Drag Racing: This has been addressed with Captain Al Rollins (Orange County Sheriff's Department) and he is notifying the coordinator of our "drag racing detail" to this ever increasing occurrence in the S. OBT area.

Mobile Food Vendors: Code Enforcement has been notified and will research.

Mosquito Issue: Mosquito Control has been notified of an excessive amount and will research.

More Police Presence: Our Neighborhood Services Department may have grant monies available for the possible funding of an off duty officer. If you are still interested, let me know and I will help you pursue this further.

Parks: Regarding an area designated for a park, let us know of any opportunities and we will check into it. Keep in mind, for a new park to be built, it must qualify with the following:

20 acres or more and be located in unincorporated Orange County.
