Greetings! | |
Seeking respite from the cold, I visited a local greenhouse. Inside I found sunshine, warmth, humidity, and dozens of small green plants preparing for their Spring release.
Hi-Tech is also preparing for Spring with Release 12.03, scheduled for March. This Hi-Tech Hi-Five describes Release 12.03 features that will make your job easier.
To help introduce these changes, on March 20-22 Hi-Tech will hold six Clinical Records Systems Workshops to review new and existing features of the Hi-Tech Electronic Medical Record (EMR). To learn more, click Clinical Workshop Registration. Follow the instructions on the form and submit it to Hi-Tech by February 29th.
We have also scheduled March Webinars that provide instruction on some of the Clinical 12.03 changes.

Hi-One: MDS 3.0 Form Changes
CMS is mandating additional changes to the MDS 3.0 forms, which become effective April 1, 2012. The changes will include new MDS items and coding changes, and a distinction between planned and unplanned discharges for completion of discharge assessments.
Hi-Tech will release these changes in March. The MDS edit and print programs are date-sensitive and will provide the correct entry screens and printed forms for the MDS Assessment Reference Date (ARD) used.
The RAI Manual and Item Set V1.08, for the April 1 forms are available at MDS 3.0 Training under Downloads.
Leading Edge of Indiana is offering the Webinar: MDS 3.0/RUG IV Series - The April 1, 2012 Changes: 10,000 Foot View on March 15 from 1-2:30.
Hi-Tech will publicize more training opportunities as they become available.

Hi-Two: Hi-Tech to Add More Electronic Signature Capability
Hi-Tech is adding additional options for allowing an authorized person to electronically sign the required areas of the MDS.
If your facility has an electronic signature policy in place, and staff members who complete the MDS 3.0 have electronic signature privileges, you will no longer be required to print any pages of the MDS 3.0 assessment to complete it for submission. Your entire MDS 3.0 records will be stored electronically. Some set-up is required.
Hi-Tech MDS 3.0 processing now provides three options for maintaining completed MDS records:
- Print entire MDS to paper.
- Print only the signature pages and store remainder electronically.*
- Print no pages and store the entire MDS electronically.*
*Must meet electronic signature regulations.
Electronic signatures will also be available in Notes and Clinical Assessments.

Hi-Three: Activities/Events to become Separate Programs
If you currently use the Hi-Tech Activities/Events option you will begin to record these items in separate programs:
- Edit Activities (i.e., bingo, birthday party, music hour, etc.)
- Edit Events (i.e., ER visits, falls, infection, flu, etc.)
Release 12.03 will migrate all your existing records into the Activities module and allow you to select the items that you consider to be Events.
Splitting Activities from Events allows you to assign user security to each category, and perhaps limit access to confidential Event records. For example, you can allow only Nursing and Administration to access Events, while all staff can access Activities. The reporting options have also been separated to list either events or activities.
To plan ahead for this change, please review your records under:
- Libraries > Documentation > Activities/Events
- Documentation > Activities/Events

|
Hi-Four: Print a Payroll Check Stub that is Easier to Read
Release 12.03 will offer the option to print Payroll check stubs in a stronger graphical layout that is easier to read. See the sample below. (If necessary, right click and download the picture.)
After you install Release 12.03, you can call Hi-Tech for assistance in turning on this new option.
