Tai-Chi

(It's Not a Drink at Starbucks)

The benefits of a Tai-Chi practice make up a very long list, too long for this short article (a quick google search will show you what I mean). But things like, better coordination, better balance, lower blood pressure, stress relief, stronger muscles, denser bones, and a general all around happier outlook (OK, the last is my personal contribution) are a few off the top.

Black Dragon Serves Tea

This exercise is a central 'linking ' exercise in the Chinese martial art of Ba Gua Zhang. The movements are easy to learn yet can be performed with many variations that keep it fun and useful for people of different abilities and backgrounds. The body coils and twists like a soaring dragon developing flexibility and strength in the whole body particularly the waist and spine where core power is developed.

Practiced slowly the exercise is meditative like Yoga or Tai Chi and when sped up it has an enjoyable dance like character.

Farmer's Market

Cloud Hands will be offering massage &/or reflexology every Friday, starting June 17th at the Ottsville Farmer's Market at Linden Hill Gardens. The hours the market is open are 4 - 8pm.
We hope to see you there!

Even if you can't make it to Linden Hill, try checking out another local farmer's market this week. The taste of unique, fresh foods should be reason enough to buy local, but benefits also include improved health & nutrition, environmental stewardship, support for family farms & rural communities, and assurance of animal welfare.

Localvores Lee & Kristen recently enjoyed a treat that was truly worth writing about:

Delaware Valley Chicken Salad

- Chicken Salad: Happy Farm pastured chicken, mayonnaise, optional raisins & celery seed

- Pesto: Lunaria Farm batch frozen last summer (basil, olive oil, toasted walnuts, lemon juice, salt)

- Arugula from Swallow Hill Farm (vendor at Ottsville Farmer's Market)

...all between two hearty slices of Bobolink Dairy's rustic artisan bread.

To locate all the local farms & markets in your area, check out Local Harvest, where you can search by zip code or product.

The History of Essential Oils

Our greatest knowledge about essential oils comes from the Egyptians. They discovered how to use the oils in healing ways. They represent man's first medicine. The Greeks also used aromatic oils for both physical problems as well as for psychological conditions like anxiety, depression and hysteria. They used aromas to create conducive atmospheres for spiritual, intellectual, creative and romantic activities.  read more (the link works this time)

The Story of My Life

What a joy it is to feel the soft, springy earth under my feet once more,
to follow grassy roads that lead to ferny brooks where i can bathe my fingers in a cataract of rippling notes, or to clamber over a stone wall into green fields that tumble and roll and climb in riotous gladness!
