Why do we wait until there is an illness, injury or extreme pain to seek treatment? Isn't it better to take care of ourselves before symptoms occur? Regular sessions help keep the body in balance and to maintain that balance when there is no illness present. It is believed that 70% of all illness is stress related. What better way to prevent illness than to keep stress levels under control with regular bodywork?
What if a person had received reflexology prior to becoming ill? Would it have lessened their symptoms or prevented the illness in the first place? What if, when you first felt your back hurting, you received a massage? Would it have prevented you from going into muscles spasms?
When a client comes in for massage with extremely tight muscles they're told that it may take several sessions to get the muscles to relax. If a client comes in for reflexology with a serious health problem we explain that you can't undo a health problem that has been months or maybe years in the making with a one hour session. A series of sessions would be required.
Many health plans now cover bodywork for health maintenance.
Do you have a flex spending account? Massage, reflexology, and possibly yoga classes qualify for that program. Check with your HR rep to find out what plan benefits you qualify for, or to suggest that they expand their plan options. As the healthcare climate continues to shift more health plans and employers are promoting preventive therapies as part of an overall strategy for reducing health care cost.
With our Loyalty Rewards program you receive points for every session. This program can help you get healthy and stay healthy. |
I Know I Should be Meditating...Right?
I should be meditating because meditation is calming, can lower my blood pressure, help me relax and sleep better, and keep my head clear so I'm more focused, etc. This list of meditation's benefits has been touted so long that it's become pretty general knowledge, and it's been repeated so often that the words have lost their meaning. It's like saying that yoga is good for stretching. It's true, but why do we want the stretch? And there's a whole lot more to a yoga practice than stretching. So the words fall far short of describing the practice.
Sometimes there are things we feel strongly that we should be doing, but we really aren't 100% sure why we should be doing it. Maybe our friends are doing it, or we've read some articles, or seen something on TV that's encouraged us that this is something we should be doing. The challenge is that should isn't a very powerful motivator. A list of fairly esoteric benefits is still just a vague concepts and not a strong motivator either.
So what is a strong motivator? Practice. Not the word practice, but the act of developing a practice. Then, any small interruption in that practice will give the practitioner a tangible, personal, and meaningful list of reasons to take the time to mediate-or whatever other practice you are pursuing.
Now there are lots of methods of meditating, and each teacher has their own approach, and each practitioner is going to eventually find and develop a system of techniques that work best for them. So, my suggestion is to try many methods and teachers, and keep trying until you've collected a set of tools that work best for you, and should will turn into do all on its own.

Healthy Recipe: Lunaria Farm Salsa (From the Lunaria Farm Blog)
Before the tomatoes disappear from the garden, why not give them one last hurrah as a fresh, pico de gallo salsa? This acidic sauce can also be easily canned or frozen, for when you need a taste of summer during the colder months ahead.
Essentials: 2 pounds tomatoes (any kind will do, including cherries) finely chopped 1/2 - 1 onion, finely chopped
1 jalepeno or other hot pepper, very finely chopped
juice of 1 lime or 1/2 lemon
1/2 tsp salt Extras: 1 bell pepper, finely chopped 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 Tbsp fresh cilantro, minced
tomatillos, husked & diced Combine all ingredients, toss, and, ideally, let sit for an hour before serving to let flavors develop. Save the remaining juices to use as a base for sauce, marinade, or salad dressing. If you make a larger batch or are in a hurry, you can also blend all the ingredients, whole, in a food processor. This will make a smoother, more liquid salsa. |

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings.
Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.
The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy,
while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.
