ABCs for Life Success, LLC invites you to attend one of our upcoming special workshops.  Start the New Year off right by learning how to advocate for your child's education, connecting with other parents and educators, and getting your questions answered.  Click on the links below for more information.

"Understanding Special Education Law and Policy"  8:30 am to 3:00 pm, Saturday, January 22 at the National 4H Center in Chevy Chase, MD. 

Special Needs Advocacy Institute, a four-session graduate-level course beginning on February 26 at the Silver Spring campus of Montgomery College.

Is your child's 504 plan or IEP not being effectively executed at school? Has his or her needs changed requiring a new approach?  What is the school legally required to do and how can you make sure your child's needs are being met?  Revanette Gilmore and Dr. Eric Levine from ABCs for Life Success will discuss these issues as well as tell you how to effectively advocate for your child with his or her school.  Attendees are encouraged to submit their own questions for the speakers ahead of time by email to Krys Renzi under the subject line January 12 CHADD meeting.  

Revanette Gilmore is an experienced Special Educator, school administrator and program developer with close to 25 years of experience. Ms. Gilmore has a Master's Degree in Rehabilitative Counseling and an undergraduate degree in Special Education with a minor in Psychology.  Dr. Levine is an experienced special educator, staff trainer, university professor, school administrator and program developer with over twenty years experience working with children with disabilities.

The meetings are open to the community. Thursday, January 20 at Oakton High School in Vienna, VA.  Doors open at 7 pm; program begins at 7:30. 

Michelle Davis and Rich Weinfeld are the featured speakers for this program, presented by CHADD of Northern Virginia.  Find out about the many ways you can help your son or daughter succeed in school. 

CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders) is a nonprofit organization that provides information and support to parents of children with attention deficit disorders, adults with attention deficit disorders, and others dealing with people affected by attention deficit disorders. Through monthly meetings with guest speakers, a periodic newsletter, support groups, and the caring of other parents as well as education and medical professionals, CHADD members form a supportive network to exchange helpful ideas about raising and educating children with attention deficit disorder.


Jan22eventOne Day Advocacy Workshop and Special Needs Advocacy Course

Make plans now to attend "Understanding Special Education Law and Policy," a one day workshop designed for parents, teachers, special educators, related service specialists and mental health providers., taught by Michelle Davis and Rich Weinfeld.  Participants will obtain an understanding of current laws and policies that specifically relate to IEP's and 504 plans, and increase their knowledge base in order to work effectively for children with special needs.  Saturday, January 22 from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm at the National 4H Center in Chevy Chase.  Only $75 - register today! 

instituteThis workshop is also a preview of our graduate-level  four-session course, Special Needs Advocacy Institute, next offered beginning on February 26 at the Silver Spring campus of Montgomery College. In this course you will gain an in-depth understanding of all facets of advocacy through supervised practice and application of skills, both during and between sessions taught by practicing advocates, attorneys, psychologists and other related service providers. You will receive individualized feedback from practicing professionals. Learn what advocates know so that you, too, can get results that make a difference for each child's future!

New flash!  We have just learned that Montgomery County Public Schools and other school districts will reimburse teachers for the Special Needs Advocacy Training Institute.  The Institute also earns 3 graduate level credits for teachers, administrators, and educators for re-certification.
