Great winter reading at the Piccabeen Bookshop

Spring may be coming, but the evenings are still cool - a great time to curl up with a good book.

Our bookshop always has a great range of quality second-hand books at low cost, and given the quck turnover you're sure to find a book you're keen to read!

Call in to meet the volunteers, find information about TM Landcare and browse the hundreds of donated books while you're there.

Gift vouchers are available too.

The Piccabeen Bookshop is maintained entirely by volunteers and all income is returned to TM Landcare's projects.

Greetings!
Great Speaker at General Meeting 16 Sept 11 a.m.

Beyond Avatar: Communities' Legal Options for Protecting their Environment

In this very engaging talk Sean Ryan, a lawyer with the Environmental Defenders Office, will show how communities can exercise their legal rights to protect their environment.

Using video clips, Sean will contrast the environmental battles dramatised in two movies (Avatar and Fern Gully), where the communities didn't access their legal rights, with three real-world examples where communities did get timely legal advice and so protected threatened wildlife and vegetation and preserved their conservation areas.

Sean is a very entertaining speaker who never gets bogged down in the detail of legislation. At the same time he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in broad-ranging environmental issues.
This is a unique opportunity to hear a compelling talk that's got a very timely message for all of us on Tamborine Mountain who care about preserving the qualities of our life in this beautiful and sometimes threatened place.

Sean Ryan (BSc, LLB, LLM, GradDip Legal Prac) is an experienced planning and environment solicitor who worked for government departments, private consultancy and private law firms before joining the Environmental Defenders Office (Qld) as a senior climate change solicitor. Having had private practice clients from all levels of government and a range of industries on broad ranging environmental issues, Sean brings a broad perspective to assisting the community through EDO Qld. In addition to assisting with the general functions of the office, Sean is focusing on climate change related litigation, education and law reform.
