No need to worry about your previous experiences with poetry - this series will give you insights into the ways in which a range of Jewish poets express and explore images, history, and ideas.

The Women of NSCI Warm up to Winter with Zumba |  Sunday, January 15, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm The gym at The Lutz Center

Join congregant Melissa Kerpel, a certified instructor, as she introduces us to Zumba, a dance and fitness class based on the principle of interval training. Class begins with a warm up, and then incorporates several dance styles including cumbia, merengue, salsa, reggaeton, cha cha cha, flamenco, belly dancing and salsation. The Latin music includes both fast and slow rhythms, allowing for both a great cardio and sculpting work out. Enjoy a light snack after class. Please wear comfortable clothing appropriate to exercising, and "cross training" or "aerobic" style shoes. Also bring a small towel and a water bottle. This is a FREE event. NSCI Talmud Study in Downtown Chicago

NSCI Tal mud Study Comes Downtown: Four Months Four Texts Downtown Study will resume on February 1 at the Schiff Hardin law firm in the Willis Tower, hosted by David Grossberg. Come and study, in English translation, four different sets of classic texts from the Talmud. Each month's texts will raise a different issue, a different set of values, and each will show how the rabbis engaged in a dynamic tradition of interpretation and teaching. Classes will meet from 12:00 pm-1:15 pm on 2/1, 3/7, 4/4, and 5/2/12. No previous experience is necessary. Note: As in the past, the class will be in the 66th Floor Conference Room at the Willis Tower, 233 S. Wacker Drive. You will need to bring your own lunch.

North Shore Community Kallah 2012
| Location: Temple Jeremiah Dates: February 7, 14, 21 7:00 pm - 9:15 pm
Seven Rabbis from the North Shore Community, including Rabbi Greene will be teaching mini-courses of three weeks during the first hour, and in the second hour faculty from Spertus will engage the whole community. First-hour classes run from 7:00 pm - 8:00 p.m. and second-hour lectures run from 8:15 pm - 9:15 p.m. Sign up for one hour or both, but do sign up in advance! Please keep in mind that the early sessions are linked, that is, classes that run for three weeks, while the second hour is made up of independent lectures.
Rabbi Greene's lecture topic will be, Ritual of Our Lives - an exploration of the role of ritual, traditional facets of Jewish ritual and new opportunities for creating Jewish ritual.

|  It is 70 CE, the Romans have destroyed Jerusalem. The Jewish people have been sent into exile. A small group of zealots have found their way to the mountaintop fortress of what used to be King Herod's palace, high above the Judean desert and the Dead Sea. Four women are among them. The Romans have laid siege to the fortress ...
