Noro
Noro has just released its premiere issue, Noro Knitting Magazine, which is chockerblock full of fabulous patterns using a variety of different Noro yarns. There is also a fascinating "Behind the Scenes" article about the founder, Eisaku Noro, and the history of this Japanese based company. Ecological sustainability is part of their philosophy and results in a complex production process that is not only beneficial from an environmental perspective, but also gives the yarns their unique colours and quality. Reading this article gave us all a much greater appreciation and respect for Noro. |

- Always Something New -
New project bags, key holders with scissors, and needle nooks in a variety of unique and funky fabrics have just arrived from Slipped Stitch Studios. Absolutely love their designs!

Just in is a fabulous assortment of Drops Fabel, a sock weight, 75% superwash wool, 25% polyamide yarn - hard wearing, yet super soft. The print colours in this yarn are dyed with a method called "fancy dyeing," which differs from other methods in that each dye lot has subtle variations in both pattern and nuance, giving the yarn its unique character. Although considered a sock yarn, it is extremely versatile and is suitable for far more than socks - try it for baby garments!
For out-of-this-world knitting nerdiness inspired by popular TV shows, books, films and comics, Knits for Nerds, by Joan of Dark (a.k.a. Toni Carr), contains 30 projects from a Cat Woman Hat to Big Bang Sweater Vests.

Knit Wear Spring 2012 magazine has also just arrived and explores such topics as the long and short of short-rows, new approaches to colour knitting, a look at the ruffle yarn trend, and loads of other ideas to inspire your knitting.
And, for all ages, we have two all-inclusive Klutz kits - Knitting, and Spool Knit Jewelry. Perfect for summer vacation!
[Please note that inventory may vary between stores]

- Project Ideas -
A current fave on Ravelry is Range by Andrea Marquis. Featured on the right, this simple, yet elegant pattern, can be worn like a cape, scarf, or as a tunic, and can be knit using any amount, weight, or texture of yarn. Jan just started this project using Misti Alpaca's Best of Nature worsted weight yarn and is loving it!
One of our favourite patterns in the new Knit Wear Magazine is the One-Seam Shrug. Using a one-row pattern with only two stitches, this simple knitted mesh creates an open, reversible mesh shrug - perfect for summer. The featured yarn that looks stunning for this project is Techno by Blue Sky Alpaca.
Insouciant, is a simple silk tee by Julie Hoover, and is knit using Habu's Tsumugi Silk. It is a design that is flattering on any figure, and the rolled neck and explosed raglan seams and side slits, are beautiful details. Anina is just finishing this project and it will soon be available for viewing at our Point Grey location.
