- Feature of the Month -
Harrisville Shetland
We recently brought in Harrisville's Highland yarn and are so impressed that we are now carrying Harrisville Shetland as well. This New Hampshire company, which has been spinning wool since 1790, uses a dyed-in-the-wool method to maximize brightness and fastness. Shetland, a 26 stitch gauge, 100% virgin wool yarn, has an ideal balance of softness and strength - perfect for lightweight blankets, fair isle knitting, or Shetland style sweaters, such as the one featured on the right from Coastal Knits. We have a great assortment of colours to choose from, such as hemlock, blackberry, aubergine and charcoal. |

- Always Something New -
For all Madelintosh fans, the latest addition to the collection is
Tosh Merino Light. This fingering weight, 100% superwash merino wool, comes in a wide range of exquisitely hand-dyed colours. With 384 meters on each skein, there is enough to complete a pair of socks; two skeins are sufficient for a full sized lace project. We also received new colours of theTosh DK and Tosh Merino.
Also, as mentioned last month, we brought in new yarn from Biscotte et Cie. It has been such a huge success that we ordered more, with the latest favourite being The Cat in the Hat, an adorable sock and glove kit. The pattern is free with the purchase of the yarn.
The new Jane Austen Knits is a great magazine if you're looking for project ideas. The 31 featured garments are all inspired by Jane Austen's narratives and include wraps, cardigans, wrist warmers and stockings.

- Project Ideas -
Congratulations to our friend and former co-worker, Emily Wessel, on the overnight success of her latest pattern, !! POP !!. According to Emily, "this blanket is inspired by the bright, exciting and high-contrast graphics of comic books and American Pop Art." The blanket can be made in any size desired and yarn choices are endless. Emily used Cascade Ecological Wool for the MC and Noro Kureyon for the CC. Visit Tin Can Knits blog for a tutorial on how to conduct the pinhole cast-on. Love, love, love it!!!
Looking for summer cardigan ideas? Jenny Watson's Noro Flowers Book 4 contains a lovely pattern using Noro Chirimen, a cotton blend yarn that is perfect for spring and summer. A sample is available for viewing at our Edgemont location.
Another great summer cardi is the Shallot pattern featured in the Rowan Purelife Recycled Collection. Knit using Rowan's Revive - a silk and cotton blend made from recycled fabric, this garter stitch and open work stitch pattern is easy to master. Great side and sleeve vent detailing! Donna knit this in pink granite and the sample is also available for viewing at our Edgemont location. |
