Try a shawl.
Do not scoff; it is perfect travel-knitting....
takes up little space, but affords plenty of actual knitting.

Feature of the Month - Spring Lace
In keeping with the theme of travel knitting, we have loads of books and patterns for light weight projects.
The newest book by Debbie Bliss, Rialto Lace, contains a lovely selection of delicate knits including scarves, shawls and lightweight sweaters. In addition, the new Debbie Bliss magazine features a number of lace patterns, including some ethereal knits highlighting her Party Angel yarn. Other light-weight yarn options include Sweet Georgia, Merino Silk Lace, Rowan Kidsilk Haze, Madelintosh Pure Silk Lace, Classic Elite Alpaca Silk, new Habu Tsumugi and Kid Mohair, to name a few. Sky is the limit, pack a pattern and yarn, and you're good to go! |

Always Something New
Some other great small project ideas that are appealing to young and old include our new needle felting kits, such as Blushing Lotus Bumblebee Kit and Woolpets Spring Bunnies featured on the right. Or, ruffle scarf lovers will love the latest Frill Seeker and Castagnette yarns; fast and satisfying.
100% Pure Yak Down from The Rocking Yak is one of our current new favourites. This yarn is hand spun with spindle and bowl by Tibetan women in rural villages; 100% of the profit from this yarn supports sustainable land use, rare yak breeds and rural families. Anina has already knit the Lush-ious Swirl Cowl in this yarn, a sample of which is displayed at our Point Grey location. A free pattern for this cowl is available on Ravelry.
Ella Rae has a new variegated yarn, Pansies, which is 100% cotton and machine washable. The accompanying pattern book has 6 great spring sweater patterns, including a simple boat-neck sweater, lacey cardigan and mesh top.
On another note, we know many of you would love for us to carry Jared Flood's Shelter but as much as we have begged and pleaded, he is still only distributing his yarns to a small number of stores in the U.S. However, we just brought in Harrisville's New England Highland, which is a great substitute, knitting up to a slightly denser fabric. We know you'll love it!
[Please note that inventory may vary between stores]
If you don't already follow us on facebook, it is a great way to keep up to date on all the fun new products that are arriving daily!

Project Ideas
Donna's Cabled-Ribbon Tank is another great travel project. Knit using Great Adirondack ribbon yarn, this tank was inspired by a 1990's Oscar de la Renta design. The ribbon gives an interesting dimension to this chic garment that can be worn alone or under a jacket or shawl. The pattern is free with the purchase of the required yarn.
For a quick knit that serves as capelet, poncho or cowl, the Shoulder Cozy pattern by Churchmouse is perfect for all seasons. Suggested yarns are Rowan Summer Tweed and Kidsilk Haze. Anina made a sample of this pattern and it has fast become another favourite.
Jan's latest project wasYvonne, from Cocoknits.
Somewhere between a shawl and a cardigan, this perfect lightweight garment for cool evenings is flattering on all body shapes. Suggested yarn - Shibui Baby Alpaca DK.
Feel free to come to our Point Grey store and try it on! |
