Feature of the Month - Misti Alpaca
At the base of the Misti Volcano in Arequipa, Peru lies the beginning of Misti International's alpaca family legacy. Misti International was founded four generations ago by the grandson of one of Peru's first exporters of alpaca fiber. Misti Alpaca yarns are known for luxury, quality, and colour and have been described as super soft and warm but without weight. We just received new Handpaint Lace and Sock Yarn as well as new colours of the Handpaint Worsted. The beautiful Mysterious Lace Reversible Scarf, featured on the right, uses the Handpaint Lace and is a free pattern available for download. |

Upcoming Events
We are pleased to announce that we are now selling tickets for KAFFE FASSETT'S lecture entitled: SIMPLE SHAPES, SPECTACULAR COLOUR. Kaffe has inspired people across the world with his colourful work. The event will take place Friday, Oct. 1st from 7:30-9:00 at UBC Golf Club. Tickets are $30.00.
In addition, BRANDON MABLY will be offering a knit workshop entitled Persian Poppy, on Sunday, Oct. 3rd from 10am-4pm with a one hour break for lunch. Students will work from a Persian Poppy graph that will be provided and Brandon will demonstrate the method of carrying yarn in fairisle and intarsia knitting and then work with students as they apply the technique to their own kitting. Attention will be paid to colour, texture, and pattern. Everyone will work on a swatch using at least 12 colours; only the basic stocking stitch will be used.
Class participants should bring a selection of 6 light or bright colours for the poppy plus 6 dark or deeper colours for the background.
This event will be at UBC Golf Club. Tickets are $135.00 and include lunch.
Both events will be followed by a wine and cheese shopping party at Urban Yarns Point Grey location. A 5% store discount will be provided for ticket holders to be used on the day of the event.
Space is limited so call 604-228-1122 for your tickets. |

Anina is currently working on Willie, using Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Chunky, super fast and super cute! Willie is a round-yoked cardigan for babies and kids, with a lovable wiener dog that wraps around the lower body. The body and sleeves are knit separately, then joined in one piece for the yoke. Available for download on Ravelry.
Another fast and simple knit, is the Shalom Cardigan, a triple-yoked sweater seamlessly knit in the round, top down, with a single button closure. Free pattern that uses only one skein of Cascade Eco. Very nice shape!
For summer shawls, Vogue Knitting Spring/Summer issue has a stunning pattern for a top-down triangular beaded-lace shawl, or Interweave Knits Spring issue has a beautiful pattern for a Facing Lilies Stole that could be worn with jeans or a cocktail dress. Both patterns would look stunning in the new Pure Silk Lace. |

Community Corner

Well, the Ride to Conquer Cancer finally arrived and our team of 22 raised over $92,000, ranking in the top 15. The event itself was amazing on so many levels: we laughed, we cried, and we rode through sun and rain. Many of us have already signed up for next year's ride and invite anyone who wants to take on the challenge to join us.
Thanks again to everyone who supported us individually and through our fundraising events! |
