Feature of the Month - SweetGeorgia

SweetGeorgia Yarns is a Vancouver based artisan yarn company that makes exquisite hand-dyed yarns. Owned by lovely Felicia Lo, she describes SweetGeorgia as being "about intense, relentless and unapologetic colour.  Sometimes irreverant and fierce. Sometimes bubbly and saccharine sweet." Everyone who experiences her yarns finds them irresistible!

We just received new colours of the Merino Silk Lace, Cashsilk Lace, and Superwash Worsted that you won't want to miss!

Always Something Ne
  • new colours of Crazy Zauberball socks.  These socks are so popular we can't keep them on the shelves!
  • Zealana's Rimu, the incredibly soft possum blend, is another favourite, so we have brought in new colours of this yarn as well
  • new colours of Luxury Baby Alpaca Sport and Mulberry Merino
  • not that we want to rush summer, but we couldn't wait to bring in the new fall colours from Blue Sky Alpaca which are on their way....seems like colour is the flavour of the month
And, speaking of colour, we are so excited to announce that KAFFE FASSETT, who has inspired people across the world with his colourful work is coming Oct. 1st to give a lecture entitled: SIMPLE SHAPES, SPECTACULAR COLOR

This event will also include a BRANDON MABLY knit workshop on Sunday, Oct. 3rd, focusing on, guess what?,  colour and design.

Stay tuned for event details!

Project Ideas

This month, our project ideas include free colourful Spud and Chloe patterns, all of which use Sweater.

My daughter recently made a number of dream catchers with some leftover yarn and, coincidentally, Spud and Chloe recently featured a Dream Catcher Hat using five colours of Sweater, and carrying on with the theme, a Dream Catcher Blanket.

So simple but sweet,  love these adorable, colourful baby mittens, perfect for the newest additions on your gift list.

Community Corner

As many of you already know, Urban Yarns has put together a team to participate in The Ride To Conquer Cancer in June.  We have 22 members and have now raised over $80,000!

Our most recent Silent Auction was a huge success, raising over $5000.00.

It was  a great event, and congratulations to our balloon grand prize winner who is now the proud owner of a stunning sterling silver necklace donated by Laura Jewitt Jewellers,  and our lucky couple live auction winners, who won a romantic evening for two at the River Run in Ladner, including dinner and brunch.

Special thanks to Stephen Kim from the Bike Gallery for all of his support and his incredibly generous donation of a beautiful, classic, urban commuter bicycle for the auction.

Thanks again to everyone for all of your support!
