Pflugerville has welcomed production crews for many years with dozens of television shows and movies filmed in the area. To formally roll out the red carpet to the film industry, the city secured official Film Friendly Texas Certified Community designation by the Texas Film Commission in November 2010.

"What's Eating Gilbert Grape," "The Newton Boys," and "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" are only a few of the many movies filmed in the Pflugerville area. For the first couple of seasons, scenes from the "Friday Night Lights" television series were filmed at the Pflugerville High School football stadium.

Wordyisms to be featured on ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"

A Pflugerville picture frame manufacturer, Wordyisms, will be featured on an upcoming edition of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" that airs on ABC at 7 p.m. Feb. 20. Owners David and Jean Garlick donated more than 30 custom frames for a project to build a new home in Salado, Texas, for an injured Fort Hood soldier and his fiancée.

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is a reality television series that provides complete home renovations or new houses for families faced with ongoing hardships. Patrick Zeigler and Jessica Hansen are the engaged couple featured on the Feb. 20 episode. On Nov. 5, 2009, a gunman at Fort Hood fired more than 100 rounds of ammunition at soldiers and civilians on base. Thirteen people were killed and 32 were injured, including Patrick, a soldier who had just returned from a tour of duty in Iraq. He was hit four times with a near-fatal gunshot to the head. Jessica dropped out of college to help care for Patrick and assist in his recovery.

Wordyisms provided custom-built frames for various photos of the couple that were hung by the "Extreme Makeover" design team in the new home.

Located at 103 N. Railroad Ave. in Pflugerville, Wordyisms mattes and frames diplomas for colleges and university alumni associations and campus bookstores around the nation. The company provides the Official Diploma Frame of the Texas Exes, the University of Texas Alumni Association. More than 80 percent of the company's business stems from wholesale high school and college degree framing projects, but Wordyisms also has a retail store in downtown Pflugerville open to the general public, where customers can have art, photography and shadowboxes custom framed.
