CAST a success for Native Americans in Montana!
Tina Corbin, a Chemical Dependency Counselor with White Sky Hope Center in Box Elder, MT, is using CAST with teens on the Rocky Boy Reservation. The Santa Barbara Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (SB-CADA) has been running Reconnecting Youth classes in area schools for over a decade. Their Coordinator, Selena Rockwell, reports significant decreases in alcohol and marijuana use in their primarily (83%) Latino youth participants. Read more about SB-CADA's results... The Greater Victoria Schools have had great succes with the RY Program in five of their eight secondary schools, with plans to sustain and expand implementation in the coming years. And just this month, Regesh Family & Child Services in Toronto, Ontario hosted a training for three new RY Leaders who will bring RY to their toughest school settings in the Spring of 2011.

through the Suicide Prevention Resource Center
"This new funding will allow the SPRC to increase its focus on populations at high risk for suicide or suicide attempts, such as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender youth, young Latinas, youth in the foster care and juvenile justice systems, and American Indian/Alaska Natives." Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System data released "The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) monitors priority health-risk behaviors and the prevalence of obesity and asthma among youth and young adults. The YRBSS includes a national school-based survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state, territorial, tribal, and district surveys conducted by state, territorial, and local education and health agencies and tribal governments." Federal agencies to collaborate with American Indians and Alaskan Tribes on suicide prevention
"The Indian Health Service and the Department of the Interior will hold ten tribal listening sessions across Indian Country to seek input on how the agencies can most effectively work within American Indian and Alaska Native communities to prevent suicide.
