Also, don't forget - new jewelry may need special insurance!

Your homeowners policy has a sublimit for jewelry and other high valued items.  Whether you have one expensive item or several valuable pieces, you need to let us know.

Yep, Hurricane Season is Upon Us

Umbrella with Rain on itThe official dates of Hurricane Season are June 1st to November 30th.

Many Floridians ignore the call to be prepared for Hurricane Season, but don't fall into this trap.  Hurricane Season is a great reminder that we all need a disaster plan.  This includes your home and business.

Why not allow Hurricane Season to serve as the catalyst for setting up YOUR disaster management plan?

The Florida Division of Emergency Management makes developing a Disaster Management plan simple.  Visit www.floridadisaster.org.  This website is great.  It will walk you through the steps of developing a plan for your family or business.  It even has a section where you can save your plan to view anywhere you have access to the Internet!

We understand you are busy.  If you don't have time to catalog everything in your home and business - then make a video!  Get a video camera (or digital camera with video capabilities) and video your stuff!  Make sure to point out special features in your home like the custom crown molding, built-in bookshelves, or the flat screen TV and comfortable chairs perfect for watching the big games!  Your video diary will help you remember and document your property should you have a loss.  Just make sure to store the video in a place OUTSIDE your home!

Ask Doug

Question MarkChristie O. asks, "What is a 4-Point Inspection and when is it needed?"

Doug's Answer: "This is a common question Christie and corresponds with last quarter's newsletter that highlighted a question about older homes.  A 4-Point Inspection is an inspection specifically for insurance companies and commonly requested by the insurance companies when insuring older homes.  What constitutes a home needing a 4-Point Inspection is determined individually by each insurance company.  For example, some insurance companies require a 4-Point Inspection for homes 30 years and older, while other insurance companies do not require a 4-Point Inspection until the home is at least 50 years old.

A 4-Point Inspection lists information about the home's Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning, Electric and Roof.   Each report will offer detailed information about these elements of the home and include an estimated life remaining for each item.
