What's In a Kitchen?
This question is so vague and misleading and you might be
saying to yourself, what are you really asking? Quite frankly, kitchens mean different things
to different people. To some it is a
place to prepare gourmet meals; to others it is a place to eat with family and
friends; to some it's a place to work and pay bills; and to others it is a
place to gather during a party. When
designing and planning a kitchen renovation, many things should be
considered. If you've lived in the home
for a while, you might have a long list of needs and desires based on your
experiences. You might be looking to
expand the space or just refresh what you have.
The choices are many.
When we bought our home in New Canaan a few years ago, the
kitchen was small and closed in with one entry way but it was located right in
the center of the house. The potential
was there to open it up as an extension into the family room but we knew we
wanted access to more than just that. Without changing the footprint, we created a
kitchen that flows into our family room, dining room and mudroom. For us, it was important that our kitchen was
a place to gather but we also wanted to feel connected to our guests when
entertaining. And in the same breath, we had to consider our family needs. Opening up our kitchen by creating another
entry from the mudroom and dining room makes it complete and functional within
the layout of our house. Taking the time
to design this was key to accomplishing our goals for the kitchen renovation.
So, what's in your kitchen?
Is it a gathering place around a center island? Is it a cozy nook to share meals with your
family? Is it a fireplace to sit by with
a glass of wine? If you are
contemplating a kitchen renovation and are not sure how you can accomplish your
goals, call TR Building & Remodeling at 203-664-1303. We can assist you in
