Hello!
| | View from the Adirondack Museum |
I enjoyed my weekend demonstrating rug hooking at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, New York. The foliage was just about peak and the weather perfect.
Meeting all the interesting people who came through at the Fabric and Fiber Festival was fun, including both residents of the north woods and leaf peepers.
I was surprised and delighted to find a local hooking group in the neighboring town of Long Lake!
Early one morning I took my Kayak (the same one I've used since I was about 7 years old!) out on the lake while it was perfectly still and absolutely beautiful. The fall colors reflected in the mirror-like surface of the water were spectacular. I hope you too are enjoying the changing of the seasons.
Sincerely,
|

Just last week I completed this new series of framed pieces. Not many people have seen them yet, but I've been told they are reminiscent of specimens in a natural history museum. I take this as a compliment; as my intention was to create objects that at first glance, look like they were just picked up outdoors. A second look, however, will reveal that they are actually assemblages, and in some cases, what appears to be one twig may actually be two or three joined seamlessly together. The twigs are further embellished with items I've collected over the years in the woods, on the beach and along country roads. Some of the items featured incorporate feathers (both from wild birds such as Blue Jays as well as our own backyard hens), seed pods, bits of grape vine, and crab claws.
I am asking the viewer to take a closer look by creating new objects from these found materials and then framing them. My intention is to showcase the beauty of these natural objects so often overlooked in our everyday lives.
The pieces are mounted on antique Irish linen given to me by a family friend. The beautiful linen was passed down three generations and was still wrapped in its original label when I received it.
The frames were professionally custom made into deep shadow boxes from reclaimed Cedar and Redwood that has weathered beautifully on our property.
This brand new work will be shown and available to purchase for the first time at the 23rd Annual Washington Craft Show taking place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC on November 19 - 21. I hope you will come by and see my newly designed booth #527.

| I'm Glad you Asked! |
| Where and when will you have more rugs for sale? |

I am excited to tell you that I will selling my rugs along with mixed media sculpture at CRAFTBOSTON in the spring. This will be the first time that I present a mix of textiles and sculpture for sale in one place. I'm looking forward to visiting with old friends, seeing family and touching base with some of my favorite customers in that area.
The show takes place at the Seaport World Trade Center from March 25 - 27, 2011. I hope you plan to attend to see my latest work.
Also, please remember that commissions for rugs are always welcome! If you have ideas about rugs you'd like to see me create, I would love to hear about them. Please email me at liz@lizalpertfay.com.
