Featured Work
"Milk Thistle" detail: Total size is 33" x 16.5" x 21". Made with milk thistle seeds, rayon thread, raw silk, reclaimed wood, antique buttons, wire, in a UV plexiglass box.

500 Quilts

This image depicts a detail of my "Milk Thistle" sculpture that will appear in the Art of the Northeast Show at the Silvermine Guild Arts Center. To see the entire piece in person, you have to attend the show, which runs from April 30 - June 11. The center is located at 1037 Silvermine Road in New Canaan, Connecticut. If you can't make the show you can see the entire piece on my website.

The Silvermine Galleries are recognized as one of New England's most respected showcases for established and emerging artists. The highly regarded Art of the Northeast, begun in 1949, is held each spring. The exhibition attracts thousands of entries from artists residing in the nine northeastern states.

This is the first time that one of my sculptures will be publicly exhibited and I'm thrilled.

Upcoming Workshop
Nature Inspired Color Theory for All Media
For three days in September (4-6) I will be leading a workshop titled "Nature Inspired Color Theory for All Media" at Peters Valley Craft Center in Layton, New Jersey. Students will use both 2D and 3D materials to experiment with color schemes found in nature. Beginning each day with a walk through the center's majestic woodland setting participants will record their inspirational observations of color and then use them to develop studies in both color and design.

Fiberarts International Show
What a treat!

Feedbag at ShowThe opening reception for Fiberarts International 2010 presented by the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh was a fabulous experience.

This juried exhibition of contemporary works of fiber art is recognized among fiber artists around the world as a benchmark exhibition that documents trends and innovations in the field.

There was lots of impressive and inspiring work and I met many interesting artists. I felt honored to have my "Feedbag" on display amongst all the other superb artwork. The show continues until August 22...don't miss it!

This show will also travel. You can see it at the Memorial Art Gallery of Rochester in Rochester, New York from April 30, 2011 through July 3, 2011 and at the San Francisco Museum of Craft + Design in San Francisco, California from October 13, 2011 through January 15, 2012

Upcoming Solo Show
Here's a Sneak Peak
A selection of my work will be featured during a solo show in the Sally D. Francisco Gallery at Peters Valley Craft Center from August 14 - September 26. Look for more information about this exciting development in the next issue of my newsletter.

I'm Glad you Asked!
How do I order a commissioned piece?
Liz Rug HookingWhen I do a commission I start by asking about the size, colors, materials and type of design you have in mind. I also need to know if you want a functional piece or something purely decorative. Sometimes people send me samples of colors or photos of the room in which they will use or display the piece.

Once I have a good idea of what you want, we discuss cost. As a basis I usually point out the price of similar works done in the past. Once we agree on the price and a 50% deposit is paid, I move ahead to produce the work. I am willing to do a rough drawing or show color samples if required, but I prefer to proceed on my own. I work best in a spontaneous manner and like to choose colors and make design decisions as the piece progresses. I feel that if you ask me to make art for you that there must already be something about my work that you are responding favorably to.

The balance is payable when the piece is completed. If you don't like the final piece, you are not obligated to purchase it.
