Summer is in full swing at The Timbers Resort and Lodge. Water sports and family fun are in the mix as vacationers take to Table Rock Lake to enjoy the cool waters for exciting summertime outings and then retreat to the relaxing atmosphere of The Timbers for quality family vacation and relaxing getaway accommodations. Timbers Resort & Lodge Hosts 1st Annual Cattlemen's Fishing Tournament | |
There was plenty of fun, excitement and camaraderie at the First Annual Cattlemen's Fishing Tournament, April 16-18 at The Timbers Resort & Lodge. Cattlement from six states converged on the resort for the event co-sponsored by Joplin Regional Stockyards.
A fish fry at The Timbers Lodge kicked off the event and filming for a segment of "The Cattle Show" was held throughout the weekend as film crews interviewed many of the participants as to their involvement in the cattle industry. The film crew also participated in the lake fishing, most importantly "catching" scenes for the July 6 premiere of the Cattlemen's Fishing Tournament on "The Cattle Show" set to air July 6 on In Country Television.
 "The tournament was designed to give cattlemen the opportunity to getaway for a weekend and enjoy some relaxed fishing and network with other cattlemen away from the stress of their daily routine," said Jeff Schoen, an organizer of the event. "With the Dogwoods in bloom in April and typically some great crappie fishing, this area is a great place to unwind and with its rustic, but fully equipped and modern cabins, The Timbers Resort provides a relaxing atmosphere for cowboys to be cowboys while enjoying Table Rock Lake water sports."
 With overcast skies and damp weather most of the day, the crappie fishing was off, but fishermen didn't turn down the bass fishing opportunities as they cast their lures into Table Rock Lake, setting out from the resort's boat dock. near Shell Knob.
Prizes were awarded Saturday night after a prime rib dinner prepared and served at The Lodge. Filming for "The Cattle Show" continued and cattlemen relaxed on the deck of The Lodge as the sun set over Table Rock Lake. The following morning, they again gathered at the lodge for a hearty breakfast before turning their rigs toward home.
The Second Annual Cattlemen's Fishing Tournament will be held
April 15-17, 2011 again based from The Timbers Resort and Lodge.
