"The new competitive advantage is green," according to Rick Walker, Senior Vice President of Sustainability Services at Transwestern.  He says that even in this market where investment dollars are hard to find, green projects continue to move forward.  Economic uncertainty necessitates that managers lower operating costs and provide building space that attracts and retains tenants.  Managers can't "opt out" of green initiatives and survive in this marketplace.  Even if you don't have the dollars to complete the LEED process, owners and managers who convert to green technology can decrease energy consumption, take advantage of the increasing number of incentives, and provide tenants with a healthier workplace.  Rick will talk about practical and attainable energy improvements with short payback that that most often deliver a positive ROI.  He will explain how to get a baseline measure of the resources your building is consuming, how to track and implement sustainability measures and figure your payback. He will provide tips to help you navigate the LEED process and incorporate sustainability into your business strategy.

Speaker:
Rick Walker, Senior Vice president, Transwestern Sustainability Services, which completed over 7 million square feet for LEED Existing Buildings O & M Certifications in 2009, including 1 LEED Platinum, 4 LEED Gold, 10 LEED Silver and 9 LEED Certified.

RSVP:  This seminar is free for BOMA/Chicago members. To register, log on to www.bomachicago.org or email info@bomachicago.org and put "Green Initiatives Seminar" in the subject line.

Coming Soon!  This education programs sets the stage for a new series of LEED Lessons Learned seminars in partnership with USGC. The fourth Tuesday of every month, you'll have the opportunity to spend your lunch hour with the experts in sustainability, green building technology, ecological services, and LEED EBOM Certification.

Details will be available February 23 at this "kick-off" seminar for BOMA/Chicago members.

20th Century Fox Looks to Film TV Pilot in Chicago Building. Location Fee to be Paid

fox20th Century Fox TV will be filming a TV pilot for a police drama featuring called "Ride Along". Location scouts are looking for two primary locations in the script.

The first location they are looking for is a high end modern office space that is more than likely an architectural firm or design firm. In the script it is a construction company. They are looking for a visually interesting lobby entrance way into the offices. The characters walk from the elevator, through the company's lobby and to an area that looks like the accounting department. In addition to shooting inside the building they would like to shoot the exterior of the building on the same day.

The second location in the script is the alderman's office. The script calls for the characters walking from the reception area into the alderman's office. The alderman's office should be very large. It is important for one scene to be able to look out onto the street. And a reverse shot of seeing the alderman looking out the window. The bigger the window the better. The exterior scene is shorter and much simpler to film.

They will be filming from March 10 to March 27, 2010 and can shoot both of these locations on the weekend. A substantial location fee will be paid for the use the property.

If you are interested in seeing if your building fits the bill for this production, please email Matt Smith at BOMA/Chicago for more information. A location scout will be out immediately to take photos of your building.
