Registration Deadline for PJM's Capacity Market Program Approaching (updated from previous Advocacy Alert publication) |
|
 |
Be part of the solution to help ensure reliable power supply this summer and get paid for your participation. In order to participate PJM's Interruptible Load for Reliability Capacity Market this summer, your building's Curtailment Service Provider ("CSP") must register your building before March 1, 2010. As a practical matter, the enrollment process should begin immediately. Some CSPs will require your documentation to be completed and signed by February 8.
Several BOMA/Chicago Affiliate Members (e.g., EnergyConnect, Metropolitan Energy, ComEd, and Constellation NewEnergy) as well as several other non-BOMA/Chicago members (e.g., EnerNOC) are able to serve as your CSP and may be contacting you to discuss this program. Before you enter into a CSP contract with any party, please be aware of the following.
BOMA/Chicago is working on a demand response program for BOMA/Chicago members. Our program is not expected to be ready until later this year, i.e., after the March 1 deadline for enrollment in the PJM capacity program. When the BOMA/Chicago program is offered, it will likely require as a condition of participation that all participants utilize a single CSP that will be selected by BOMA/Chicago for this purpose and role.
To the extent your building has contractual obligations to a CSP other than the one selected by BOMA/Chicago, your building might not be able to participate in the BOMA/Chicago demand response program.
Please keep that limitation in mind if and when you negotiate a contract with any party for CSP services this year, especially if your contract would extend for more than one year. We also recommend that you check to see whether your electricity supply agreement contains provisions regarding your use of that supplier as your CSP.
If you have any questions about the PJM capacity program, you should direct those to your energy advisor or supplier. Questions about the BOMA/Chicago demand response program in development should be directed to Ron Tabaczynski in the BOMA/Chicago office at (312) 870-9611 or rtabaczynski@bomachicago.org. |
