October 4, 2010 News and Notes |
| Update from Institutional Outreach
I would like to extend congratulations on behalf of our division to Dr. Cleveland for being selected as Interim President for Chattahoochee Valley Community College. We will miss him during this time as he assists our fellow college. As you may have noticed, the mobile units have arrived on campus and soon we will complete the project to vacate the Bailey Center. Human Resources has now relocated to the offices in the Mathematics Building where Student Services was formerly located. Once the decks are complete for the mobile units, Financial Aid, Admissions, the ACTION Center and Business Offices will begin their move. The President's Office will complete the move. The date of the President's Office relocation will be announced at a later time. Once everyone has vacated the Bailey Center, the mailboxes will be located in the basement of the Bookstore. Benevolent Fund- Every effort is made to ensure that flowers are delivered to employees who have experienced a loss or hospitalization according to the guidelines for the Benevolent Fund. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to provide information regarding their employees in order for announcements to be made to the campus regarding funeral details so that flowers can be purchased. In the event that a death or hospitalization occurs over the weekend or we are not informed in a timely manner, then flowers are sent to the employee when they return to work. Events- Please remember that events of any type using any part of campus must be booked with Tina Jones in advance of the event and prior to announcing the event to the public. All space on campus including classrooms is available for use for meetings and events. A facility request is available in the mailroom. ~Melinda Edwards

Fast FactsAccording to a National Sleep Foundation poll, only one in five adolescents get an optimal nine hours of sleep on school nights. Over the course of a week, high school seniors miss nearly 12 hours of needed sleep. In a recent study in The Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, 15% of students who reported that they had had at least one car crash considered sleepiness the main cause. ( Source) Coach Barry Spitzer and the electrifying Wallace State soccer team are seeking some volunteer assistance at home games! Our team is looking for an individual to be the public address announcer prior to games, specifically introducing the lineups for Wallace State and theopposing team. A scoreboard operator is also needed and can be the same person as the announcer. Also, anyone who would enjoy being a ball chaser at the games can contact Coach Spitzer to help in thatarea. A ball chaser needs to be at least 12-years-old and corrals all the loose balls that travel out of the field of play. Each of these roles are open to anyone in the WSCC family, an employee's child, or any soccer enthusiast you may know who wants to get closer to the action! If you have any interest or know someone who might, contact Coach Spitzer at x8370 or WSCC Staff Writer, Russell Moore, at x8443. Congratulations to Lady Lions Softball For the second consecutive year, WSCC's Lady Lions softball team led all college teams in the 2010 girls got game/NFCA Top Ten All-Academic Team rankings with a team grade-point average of 3.708. This also marks the third straight season that the Lady Lions have topped the junior college division.
