Holocaust Exhibit
The Common Read Committee and The Evelyn Burrow Museum are hosting "Darkness into Life," an exhibit of the Birmingham Holocaust Education Committee. In this sensitive assembly of narratives, photography by Becky Seitel and art by Mitzi J. Levin, viewers are provided intimate glimpses into the private memories of twenty Alabama Holocaust survivors. The exhibit will be on display in the Burrow Center September 20 through October 15, during museum hours of operation (Tuesday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.), and at other times the building is open. Students who require proof of attendance may sign in at the museum. Admission is free.
Holocaust survivors Riva and Aisic Hirsch will speak to the campus on Thursday, October 14, at 9:30 a.m. in the Burrow Center Recital Hall. Come early as seating will be limited.
For more intormation contact Dr. Mary Barnes, chair of the Common Read Committee, at mary.barnes@wallacestate.edu, or call the Burrow Museum at 256-352-8457.
Gotta Have 'Em: WSCC Lion Card and Parking Hang Tag
All students are required to have a Lion Card. This card is necessary to print in the on-campus computer labs and required for student identification. As part of the process of issuing a Lion Card, a student will have to have their photo taken. If a student is only taking on-line courses, they do not have to have a Lion Card. This is the only exception.
Parking Hang-Tags: Any student who drives any kind of motorized vehicle on campus must register it and have a current parking hang-tag. The hang-tag for Fall 2010, Spring 2010 & Summer 2010 is GREEN. Faculty and Staff hang-tags are blue. Necessary information for a hang-tag: Vehicle tag number, drivers license number, make and model of vehicle, student number and mailing address.
Lion Cards and Hang-Tags are available in the Student Center Monday -Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 pm. and Friday, 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
Employment Day
NACPED is a Professional Employment Day (down to earth interpretation, Career FairJ) and provides opportunities for employers to meet outstanding candidates for potential job openings.
This will be the 23rd year of NACPED and the second year Community Colleges have been included. Wallace State Community and Calhoun Community College have accepted the opportunity to co-produce this career fair, along with Alabama A&M University, Athens State University, Oakwood University, and The University of North Alabama. NACPED will be held at the Von Braun Center, in Huntsville, Alabama. Employers will be ready to receive students from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2011. We plan to have a link to NACPED where interested parties can check for a list of employers planning to attend, after January 24, 2011.
We hope our students/graduates will mark their calendar and make plans to participate. We believe participating in this career fair will provide additional job opportunities to our students and graduates, especially those who reside north of the campus or who are willing to commute to the Huntsville area.
