Update from eLearning
We are so excited to have an advanced visualization center (AVC) open and on our campus!  With a successful grand opening, we are preparing for a busy season of use and tours as well as creating exciting and relevant 3D visualizations to be integrated into various curricula across campus.  In addition to tours and creating content, we will be forming "Innovation Teams" to advise the content development staff in the creation of content that will be relevant to their classes.  As we progress, we will be implementing a certificate specifically targeted to content development.  The courses within this certificate will train students to create content within 3D environments targeting a wide range of 3D technologies.  The AVC features nine labs with uses for both education and workforce development.  These are the Broadcast and Studio Lab, Development Lab, Experience and Discovery Lab, Immersive Learning Lab, Rapid Prototyping Lab, Telepresence Lab, and three Visual Learning Labs.

Again, we will invite you all to come see the center and experience the 3D technology first hand.  As you tour the facility, please feel free to dream about how to integrate this technology into your courses and ask questions!  We are on the cusp of a new technology revolution and are extremely excited to see how we can apply 3D technology across the institution.

The Next QEP
If you have an interest in serving on the QEP Topic Team in preparation for the SACSCOC 2014 visit, please send an email to Harriet Mayo by July 30.  Team members will be announced at Fall Convocation.

Convocation
Dr. Terry O'Banion will be the guest speaker during Convocation on August 16.  O'Banion is the author of the seminal work on the learning college concept, A Learning College for the 21st Century. He will introduce new employees to the concept and refocus us all as we strive to become more learning centered in all that we do. Many thanks to the Professional Development Committee for securing Dr. O'Banion as our guest speaker.  Please make your calendar for this event.

Employee Photos
New employee photographs will be made throughout the day of Convocation, August 16. The college needs updated photographs of employees for news releases, publications, etc. as some of our file photos are quite old.  David Haynes, of The Studio at Blount Springs, will be with us all day. Please stop by the Burrow Center to have your photo made. You'll receive the digital file for your own professional use.

Student Learning Outcomes/Program Outcomes Assessment
Days are set aside in the Academic Calendar each year to conduct planning and assessment of all programs and services at Wallace State.  Planning and Assessment are everyone's responsibilities, and attention to this critically important process is even more important as we complete our Fifth Year Interim Report. All 2008-09 Outcomes Assessments and Unit Action Plans are to be concluded by August 31.  All 2009-10 Outcomes Assessments and Unit Action Plans are to have been entered into the SPOL software by August 31 as well and initial assessments of intended outcomes conducted as required. Please contact Mary Mayo for assistance with this very important process.
