Update from Health Sciences
Have you noticed the gorgeous crepe myrtles around campus that are just dripping with blooms? Although these beauties are actually Asian natives, it's hard to imagine an Alabama summer without them. It's also hard to imagine our nursing program without Dr. Denise Elliott. After tenure of more than thirty years, Dr. Elliott has announced her early August retirement. She was one of the first individuals that I met at Wallace State. She chaired my selection committee with her characteristic "no-nonsense" approach. I knew almost immediately that I would like to get to know her better. The combination of a tough exterior, a good sense of humor, and a heart of gold has served her well as a nurse educator and administrator. She's stated several times that her childhood dream was to become a nurse or a teacher and that this job allowed her to do both. It's impossible to recount all the contributions made to the nursing program by Dr. Elliott, but it will suffice to say that it's been a labor of love requiring blood, sweat, tears, and a few good laughs.
Dr. Elliott, we love you, will miss you, and wish you only the best in your upcoming retirement!
