Update from Learning/Applied Technologies

Today, Wallace State will unveil a national model Advanced Visualization Center (AVC) and the new Center for Economic and Workforce Development, both of which are located in the completely renovated space that was once the Music Building. The Center for Economic and Workforce Development is now home to our Adult Education program and the Alabama Career System's Hanceville office. It provides one-stop service for individuals seeking employment and short-term training as well as GED, ESL, career skills and college prep classes.

The AVC is an exciting, completely new addition to campus that will provide 3-D and 4-D training using virtual reality, delivering a kinesthetic learning experience in a simulation-based format that can enhance any program of study. From investigating the inside of a motor before taking apart the real thing, to practicing a medical procedure on a virtual patient before carrying it out on a human one, to programming a robotic device without even touching a robot, to traveling to outer space for an astronomy class-the possibilities for teaching and learning are only limited by the imagination. The AVC will provide an environment for innovation that will facilitate industry, government, educators, students, and entrepreneurs to create, develop, interact and produce. I encourage our faculty members to take full advantage of the opportunities afforded by this center and its tremendous potential to boost graduation and retention rates and to positively impact student learning outcomes.

Thanks for all you do to serve Wallace State. I look forward to seeing you at the grand opening.

                                                                       ~Dr. Philip Cleveland
