Division Update - Institutional Advancement
Graduation- It's my favorite time of the year! Seriously, there is just a certain feel to this time of year when final grades are turned in and we end the year honoring our students as they walk across stage to receive their diplomas. For those who have made plans to be a part of commencement exercises on May 14th, we will begin faculty line up at 5:30pm with the ceremony beginning at 6:00. Our Chancellor, Dr. Frieda Hill will address our graduates this year. You will be in for a treat as the Wallace State Singers will present the special music. A reception will be at the Burrow Center beginning at 4:00 prior to graduation. Parking will be designated for you at the Wellness Center. Please let Terry Edwards know who you are for entry to the parking lot. Very Important-Suzanne Harbin and Cherri Smith will be directing you this year during the ceremony. There has been a change as to how you will exit the auditorium after the Benediction so please pay attention to them as they guide you. Congratulations on another year completed.
-Melinda Edwards
Fast Facts
Nationally, head count in credit courses is up 11.4 percent over the last year, and 16.9 percent over two years, according to the survey, which included data from hundreds of colleges from every region of the country. Notably, given that about 60 percent of community college students are enrolled part time, one of the most dramatic parts of the new enrollment surge is that it is coming in large part by full-time students. Over the last two years, the percentage gain in full-time students has been more than twice the rate as for part-time students. ( www.insidehighered.com)

Relay for Life
The Helping Hands Relay for Life team is selling stars and leaves for our Wall of Memory/Honor located in the lobby of the Bailey Building for $5 each. All proceeds benefit Relay for Life . The stars are in remembrance of those who have finished their fight and the leaves are in honor of survivors and those who are currently in the fight. You may provide a picture of the one you are recognizing to be placed on the leaf or star. Picture size is approx. 2 x 2" and they will not be returned. Checks should be made payable to WSCC Relay For Life. Please contact Jan Garner in Student Support Services, Beth Kreps in the Cashier's Office, Jennifer Smith in Financial Aid, Diana Majerik in the English/Computer Science Building, Dana Adams in the Math Building, or Virginia Barber & Misty Kennedy in the IT Dept. to purchase. The display will be moved to the WSCC Relay for Life campsite on May 7. Have you seen the purple ribbons around campus or your neighborhood yet? Purple ribbons are being displayed through May 8th as a reminder of the fight against cancer. Have you bought your purple bow yet to help the Cullman County Relay for Life committee paint the county purple? The cost is $10 and all of the money goes to Relay for Life for cancer research. Please help your Wallace State Relay for Life Team raise money by purchasing a purple ribbon to display at your home or office.
The Relay for Life kickoff begins at 6:30 p.m. on May 7 at Heritage Park. Please stop by to show your support for Wallace State. So far our teams have raised over $5,000 which is not bad for just three months of fund raising. Thanks to all who have given and participated in the quest for a cure for cancer. Jan Garner will be the new Chairperson for the upcoming year.
