Division Update - Institutional Outreach

I am busily learning the ropes of Workforce Development.  I am a definite supporter of short-term training, especially in the current economy as people need to get back to work quickly.  Some of the best opportunities for employment exist in the transportation industry. Our Truck Driver Training program is offered every four weeks. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) employment opportunities are good as well. Our next training opportunity is June 8th. The Phlebotomy program will also begin a class on April 6th. If you know of someone who has been displaced, these are very good training opportunities available that require only weeks.

Several individuals from Wallace State will be at the Lee Plant on April 8th to assist workers who will soon be out of work. Jennifer Hill, Elizabeth Moore, Joyce Cordes, Whit Rice, Barbara Atchley, Phillip Cleveland and I will be on hand for advisement regarding financial assistance and career counseling.
The Summer Youth College will be the week of June 14-17th. Students grades 7-10 may enjoy classes such as Anyone Can Draw Anything, Clay Fun (Adrian Scott), Powerful PowerPoint, Fun Science Experiments, Jewelry Art, Calligraphy, Creative Digital Photography, G.L.A.M. (Girls Learning About Manners) (Aletta Coleman), C.S.I. (Crime Scene Investigation) (Thea Hall & Bob Howell), Act the Part (Lauren Cantrell) and Cake Decorating (Pat Horton).

The Chamber Education Committee recently held its annual Career Awareness Fair on campus. This was a great opportunity for the 10th graders of Cullman County to receive information from an actual individual who works in their career choice. Thanks to all of our instructors, recruiters and our event coordinator who made the event a success.

The WSCC Relay for Life Committee is busy raising funds. Please watch your email for opportunities to participate.
