Division Update - Workforce Education
It is an exciting time with our new Library Director, Lisa Hullett, coming on board with many great ideas that will help us meet the needs of our students. We face many new challenges with increasing student needs such as e-books and updating our collection. After one day on the job it was great to hear her say "the people here welcomed me and the library staff really has worked hard over the past months, keeping students needs as the primary focus."
Our Carpentry, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, Plumbing, Electrical, and Masonry training program has exceeded our grant training goals within the first five months. This opportunity gives trainees the flexibility to choose one of the areas listed. Once they have completed the six weeks of training, they have acquired up to eight credentials that will make them very competitive in the job market. Within this training they also are prepared to interview and build a resume. We are also offering this training in Welding. The Welding program grant has provided us the opportunity to gain training space and additional equipment. The Welding trainees also gain credentials and weld certifications.
This is a brief update on one of the many grants that WSCC has received to provide training opportunities. We hope this training opportunity provides them the edge when the economy rebounds and the job market opens. -Dr. Philip Cleveland
