Division Update - Health Sciences
The Health Science Division held a Soup and SPOL Social a few weeks back.  We enjoyed a virtual bounty of soups, stews, appetizers, and desserts.  This luncheon made me think of one of my favorite fairytales, "Stone Soup". It's the story of stranger visiting a village during a famine and proceeding to make soup using only a special stone.  The villagers became so intrigued by this idea that they slowly began to release some of their last bits of hoarded food.  The bits of meat, vegetables, and seasonings individually had little value, but collectively became a delicious soup that helped sustain the villagers through the famine.

The health science division is made up of a collection of individuals with an array of talents.  We have programs that attract the caregivers, the adrenaline junkies, the analytical, as well as the creative.  We also attract individuals who like to work with people while others prefer to work behind the scenes. We are truly a diverse group. Melding a unique mixture of individuals can sometimes be a challenge, but it also can have many rewards.

The "Let's Pretend Hospital" hosted by the nursing department last week is an example of how melding many talents into a single event can produce phenomenal results.  The nursing faculty and students along with local emergency response personnel and community businesses pooled their time, resources, and talents to produce the event. Over 700 first graders were on our campus last week to experience a pretend hospital that included real life hospital simulations as well as the Easter Bunny, Sponge Bob Square Pants, and several other characters.  It was both educational and entertaining and was a shining example of how a diverse group of individuals can pool their talents and create something wonderful.
