Raise the Roof for Haiti
Montgomery - State Board of Education members and college presidents joined Dr. Freida Hill on Thursday to announce a system-wide effort to help rebuild Haiti.
"The RAISE the ROOF for Haiti campaign will raise funds for Habitat for Humanity Haiti, a program that has been building sturdy, small homes in Haiti for the past quarter-century," the chancellor said. "We are inviting employees, students and partners of all our institutions and the Department of Postsecondary Education to participate in this campaign."
Division Update - Technical Division
WSCC Technical Division has an all time high enrollment with many programs having to cap enrollment. The programs have acquired industry certifications and received updates in equipment as well as facility improvements. These national program certifications are not achieved without much hard work from the instructors. The soft skills training that the technical division implemented has as been well received by industry. This training provides trainees with the needed skills for successful transition into the work place. It is always great to hear from industry as the comments lead to job placement and or a willingness to participate on an advisory committee or a donation of supplies such as metal or other necessary supplies that help us to elevate our training.
The non-credit training that we are providing through the America Recovery Act has lead to many opportunities for our communities. These training programs in electrical, plumbing, masonry, carpentry, heating and air, and welding are also providing a pathway for trainees to transition into the credit technical programs. We are providing information for adults and high school students through the Alabama Success Project. This project provides the career cluster material that allows individuals the opportunity to make informed career decisions. If you would like to have a copy of this material please let us hear from you. As we start up summer semester, plans are being made to enhance our non credit offerings through a strengthened partnership with the Alabama Technology Network. This partnership will allow us the flexibility to expand our current offerings and provide time to expand our health continuing education offerings.
