Merry Christmas!
Message from Dr. Folsom - As most of you probably know I am retiring from Wallace State at the end of December, but I will continue to support and applaud all of the future accomplishments that are destined to come for this College. I have enjoyed being part of the Wallace State family for almost twenty-two years and will certainly miss not getting to see my co-workers and students on a daily basis. I wish all of you joy and peace during this wonderful Christmas season, and may your new year be filled with good health and happiness.
Retirement Celebration
Please makes plans to attend a celebration honoring Dr. Jenny Folsom on December 15 from 2-4 p.m. in the JBC lobby.
Christmas Breakfast
The annual Christmas Breakfast will be held on December 18 from 8-9:30 a.m. in the Banquet Hall. Please post appropriate signage that offices will be closed during this time.
Please remind your students that they can now use their Lion Cards at CVS. More locations coming soon!
Travel to Savannah with the Alumni Association
The deadline to register for the Alumni Association's "Savannah Southern Charm" Tour is Friday, December 18. The tour departs on March 25 and returns March 28. Fine dining and special tours are optional. Visit www.wallacestate.edu/alumni.html for more information.
WSCC is planning a trip to Greece in May, 2010. The tour will depart May 20 and return May 28, with an optional three-day Greek Isle Cruise extension returning May 31. The trip is open to anyone interested. Sign up by Jan. 20 to guarantee your spot and avoid a late fee. For more information, contact Kristen Holmes (x8118).
Athletics Update
The men's basketball team is continuing its winning ways with victories over New Horizon Prep, Huntington College and Tennessee Temple. The Lions host Sound Doctrine tonight at 8 p.m. and will return to action on January 9. The Lady Lions host Huntington JV tonight at 6 p.m. and will return to action on January 11.
Poinsettias
Poinsettias are now available in the Agribusiness department for $8 and $10 each day until 2:30 p.m. while supplies last.

Our First Year Gateway Initiative won Honorable mention at the National Council of Instructional Administrators' Exemplary Initiatives Awards competition and will be invited to present at the International Conference on College Teaching in Learning in Jacksonville, FL in April. This is quite an honor!

State Board Recognizes Wallace State
Leadership WSCC traveled to Montgomery last week where they attended a State Board of Education meeting, and toured the new offices of Postsecondary and the Capitol building. During the meeting, Board members recognized the Leadership class and praised the poinsettias delivered by our horticulture students. Members of 2009-2010 class of Leadership WSCC include Courtney Walker, Diane Wilhite, Donna Speeker, Gary McMinn, Jennifer Eddleman, Lauren Cantrell, Lea Casey, Malinda Morton, Pamela Murff, Russell Moore, Susan Smith and Tammi Gattis.
AHSAA Regional Tournament
The 2010 AHSAA Regional Basketball Tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, February 16 - Saturday, February 20. Thanks in advance to all who volunteer and make it possible for this to be a successful event that attracts several thousand prospective students to the WSCC campus. Wallace State Recognized by National Council of Instructional Administrators
Wallace State Community College in Hanceville has been recognized by The National Council of Instructional Administrators (NCIA), headquartered at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, in its 2009 Exemplary Initiatives Competition for the "First Year Gateway Initiative," a program dedicated to improving the first year experience of students at Wallace State through academic support and interaction, engagement with students, and improving overall student satisfaction, retention and grade point averages.
