Holiday Hours
During the weeks of November 23 and December 21, employees will work regular, eight-hour work days to ensure that holidays during these weeks are appropriately accounted. Please post signs reflecting these changes to the hours of operation in your area.
 
Miss Wallace State
Congratulations to Miss Wallace State 2010 Jordan Ratliff of Oneonta! Her platform is "Coping with Cancer, One Song at a Time."  Jordan also won the talent competition with her vocal performance of "It Is Well With My Soul." Melina Newman of Cullman was first runner-up and swimsuit winner. Taylor Carpenter of Cullman finshed second runner-up. Best of luck to Jordan as she represents WSCC in the Miss Alabama pageant in June at Samford University.

Employee Achievement Awards
Congratulations to Employee Achievement Award winners Dr. Paul Taylor, Deborah Spann, Dr. Fred Halstead, and Suzanne Harbin. They represented Wallace State in the Chancellor's Awards presented at ACCA. 

Tree Lighting and Children's Christmas Party
The Official Tree Lighting Ceremony and Children's Christmas Party will be held Monday, November 30 at 3:30 p.m. in the JBC Lobby. Music will be provided by the Wallace State Singers and Musicians.  Santa will arrive at 3:45 p.m.
 
Theatre Auditions
The Theatre Department will hold auditions for Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" on December 4 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre. Participants should prepare 16 bars, or a verse and chorus, of a Disney style song that shows range. For more information, email theatre@wallacestate.edu
 
"A Billion for a Billion"
Just in time for Thanksgiving...The World Food Programme is calling on ordinary citizens to mobilize through the "Billion for a Billion" campaign to end hunger. "A Billion for a Billion" is designed to make a link between the billion people who go hungry and the more than a billion people who are on the Internet. Did you know? "If everyone with plenty gave just $1.50 or Euro1 a week, those without food would have enough to eat," said WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran. To find out more, click here
 
Trip to Greece
WSCC is planning a trip to Greece in May, 2010. The tour will depart May 20 and return May 28, with an optional three-day Greek Isle Cruise extension returning May 31. The trip is open to anyone interested. For more information, contact Kristen Holmes (x8118).
 
Athletics Update
The Lady Lions Volleyball Team was eliminated at the national tournament last week and ended a remarkable season with a 34-6 record. Congratulations to Randy Daniel for achieving his 100th win in only 3 seasons as head coach! Congratulations to both women's and men's basketball teams for sweeping LBW on Saturday with scores of 58-52 and 72-32 consecutively. The men's team plays in the Shelton State Classic in Tuscaloosa beginning today. The women's team hosts Ft. McPherson on December 5.
 
Talking Hands Club
The Talking Hands Club will be learning Christmas Carols in sign language at the next few meetings, held every Tuesday at noon on JBC 4th floor. Contact Heather Congo (x8054) for more information.

Poinsettias
Poinsettias are now available in the Agribusiness department for $8 and $10 each. No sales will be made after 2:30 p.m.

Jist Publishing is publishing a book on community colleges to serve as a guide for students on how to make the most of the community college experience. If you would like to provide a quote for consideration, please submit your answers to any of the questions below to kristen.holmes@wallacestate.edu. Please phrase your comments in the second person.

Wallace State's Clinical Laboratory Technician Program Receives Reaccreditation
The Clinical Laboratory Technician program at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville recently received reaccreditation from the National Accrediting Agency for the Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), an organization developed and maintained by pathologists, physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and management of human disease.  Full Story

The Wallace State Community College Medical Assistant Club and The Northeast Alabama Society of Medical Assistants recently held a LifeSouth Blood Drive at the Cullman Wellness and Aquatic Center on Thursday, October 22. Full Story
 
Wallace State Faculty Members Take Part in UA's Community College Leadership Academy
Glynice Crow, instructor in the business department at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, and Dr. Paul Taylor, director of the Wallace State Respiratory Therapy program, are among the participants in the 2009-2010 class of the University of Alabama's Community College Leadership Academy.  Full Story
