Update from the Green Team
The Green Team Committee met last week and would like to share the following updates to current initiatives.
-Tobacco-Free Campus Initiative:
Joel Ferrell reported that the SGA will vote on the resolution request during their meeting next Tuesday, Nov. 17. The overall feeling of the SGA president is that the initiative will pass. Tammi Gattis will ask that the SGA share with committee emails sent to students seeking additional input & responses, to include with survey results. She will also send an email to all employees with the Smoking Survey results & comments.
-Paperless Office Initiative: Heather Congo will contact Bruce Tenison to discuss the feasibility of providing most (ideally all) college forms (leave requests, etc.) in electronic format. If response is promising, committee will contact business & human resources offices to inquire about how we can help make this a reality. The Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce has initiated a "Go Paperless" initiative that may be used as an example in these efforts. Tammi will contact Deonne J. Ludwig (Manager, Community Development) to learn more.
-Recycling Initiative: Financial Aid contacted the Green Team to ask that member pick up plastic bottles collected. Bill offered to collect & recycle these items. Tammi will contact Suzanne Harbin to request an update concerning potential grant request & to offer committee's assistance in these efforts. She will also contact Janice Morgan & Phil Studdard to request update regarding report & suggestions which will be presented to Cabinet. Unless someone volunteers to take over duties, Heather & Tammi will pause collection of recycling for JBC from Dec. 18 - May 1, due to pregnancy & maternity leave. Collection sites (departments) will be notified of this change.
Staff Present: Heather Congo, Bill Moss, Julie Irvin, Brandi Gindhart, & Tammi Gattis
Next Meeting: 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10
Celebrating Diversity
Today is the UN's International Day for Tolerance.
"Tolerance does not mean indifference or a grudging acceptance of others. It is a way of life based on mutual understanding and respect for others, and on the belief that global diversity is to be embraced, not feared."
